At first, I wasn't too sure about this but when I got to the core, especially the conversation between the two about love, I loved it. I believe that what her grandmother says to Jimi was really well written. There were a few grammar issues that could be improved, but over all I think this story holds a very strong lesson.

It had a very deep emotional meaning to it that could only be seen through eyes that have a clear definition of what "love" is to themselves. I'm way too young to understand the concept but I can still dream:) I don't have any helpful tips because I see nothing wrong. I just wanted to give my opinion.

This tells a story but more importantly, it has a message and a moral that reveal something about true life and reality that should be embraced. As a "bleeding heart liberal" or a sucker for stories and excuses, I find it affirming to hear of the grandmother that convinced her granddaughter to give her ex another chance and to appreciate what the trauma he has suffered. Too many people I know are overwhelmed with their own traumas to recognize that young people who make big mistakes and live poorly may have seen or experienced trauma and their problems and bad behavior come from pain, rather from being "spoiled" or over-indulged. I think this author knows that we all have an obligation to those we have loved or made commitments to, to do our best to help them get through the difficult times and to reassure them of our commitment, while asking where the pain comes from and foregoing self-righteousness at least until there is truly no forgiveness or hope of rehabilitation. The scenes are vivid and the love shared between grandmother and granddaughter is indelibly impressed upon the reader with great skill.

Dear talented writer, this was one of the best stories I have read on this site and not only a romance story but one we all can share and take home a message.

You are a talent and exceptional writer unlike any other I have read. Be proud and bless you!

Dear Jimi, This story should be published in Reader's Digest or some other well-read magazine. It is priceless, and well-written. I could find nothing wrong with it. It's rich in imagery. Your vocabulary is, as usual, impeccable. I would offer just one small thing... "cricket choirs" instead of "choir of crickets".
It seems to me that you wrote about Emma and Edwin before in a beautiful poem I reviewed. Am I imagining that? It seems so familiar.
This is just a wonderful romantic story. But then you are the Queen of Romance, Jimi!
Excellent!
your ardent fan,
Kimbob

This is a wonderful story filled with deeply felt emotion. I felt I was in Emma's house searching with you for the Grandmother's secret. I love the way her story and your's come together in the end. Knights in shining armour . . .;) beautifully written and the ending is a heart warmer worth a few tears.

Your story touched my heart in memories of my own grandmother and the smell of lilac. I wish you had submitted this for the biographical true story contest. A wonderful telling of the life and death of your dearest. What a wise woman she was, the part that really polished the story was her advice to you about John and the acting upon it. I wish I had six stars to give you. One of your best stories - when you write from memory and with love your story touches the heart of the reader. ******* seven virtual stars!

Nice Jimi, very nice friend, I think the truth of your words and the story you have told hinges on the power of true love, too many give up on there dreams far to easily these days friend, or they were simply never truly in LOVE, I couldn't imagine not being with Moana or my children...EVER. Lets hope some of your readers take time to reflect and take stock after reading this one friend. This one is priceless :)
Have you ever seen the movie; When love is not enough, The Lois Wilson story. I think you would enjoy this one friend and it redifines the meaning of true love, plus it is based on a true story, not normally something I would watch but then Moana picked it. Hitch

What a romantic story....and I usually don't like such material. But this is great! Our service men come back bearing scars and baggage we can't begin to understand. The turmoil they experience and the demons that accompany them back is beyond most of our imaginations. Well done! Great piece of work. Joe
