Interesting letter. Non fiction story told in a letter. It is clever and full of good advice. Thank you for that. I would like to know where this idea came from it is fascinating.

Boy oh boy! I had to look up the story as I couldn't remember. It was four years ago, and I can certainly see the errors now--four years later. You must really have been poking around to find this. In my portfolio?
As for the inspiration, I have written about the abuse--every kind, from my childhood. A reader spilled out her heart to me and I breather some oxygen into the conversation. She too was abused, but not getting past the scars.
Wow, what a compliment to read something so old. Thanks.

Hi Ingrid... Thank you for writing this for that little girl I cant hardly believe the shit some people think they have the right to do too others. Yes, in no way is she to blame. Real sorry this kind of stuff goes on. Thanks again love Michael

Interesting story behind this. The mother spent hours on PM postulating and beating herself up. Erica is almost 30 with a daughter of her own and she self medicated with drugs. She fully understood that her addiction was because of childhood sexual abuse, had talked about it to doctors etc and then was left with dealing with her addiction. Her mother, in tremendous guilt that she broght the abuser into the home is the one who couldn't heal. She stopped treating hersellf like a woman, wouldn't cut/dye her hair and did a lot of crying, especially when she was with her daughter.
Apparently she took this letter and read it to her daughter and she agreed with it and as a result of this ADULT conversation, mom started to understand her grief over her lost child's innocence...for two solid decades...also needed to heal. It was going in the right direction when I last checked in. ingrid

The sentence below just jumped off the page for me, It's a point of view that, though it sounds so foreign, could be a strong probability. One I would never have thought of, real food for thought.
Sometimes it feels like everybody just wants us to go back to that dark space so that they can suffer along with us; the degradation, humiliation and dominance and the horrific details so that they can share the blame.

Her mother seems to want to do that through overnight PMs, Yes, it was a specific response, but you understand.

I'm completely confused and feel like I just read something that's none of my business. However, with that being said, I agree with you that it's time for the past to be in the past forever and for the victim/s to leave all guilt behind
It's very well written for Irene, Erica, Annabelle. I hope they all garner some strength from your support.

For some letting the past be the past invalidates (I must add they are wrong) their pain. For some reason they need to relive the event to validate it. I was once one of these woman but fortunately have moved on and am enjoying every moment of my life. I realize this post is directed at specific people but what you say is so important to many that read it.

You really do get it, understand. Yes, this was a response to overnight PMs from very wounded people who need to change their thinking.

Ten out of ten my dear. I totally agree with you. Spit out the bad past and carry on with life. After all, time and tide waits for no man. (My Dad used to say that ever since I can remember). I am sure there are plenty of women out there (and I am one of them) who can relate to this story. Well done my friend. Take care, luv Cynthia

You said this very well. Most of us have terrible things happen yet it is up to us each to step up and make the best of it afterward. Thank you for sharing.

Well, my friend, I confess I'm not sure what this is about, but I can tell it has been written from the heart. I'm guessing it has to do with the abuse?
The things some of us have to live with. It's kind of like putting your hand on your leg. Leave it there long enough, and your leg won't feel it anymore. It adjusts, accepts.
Maybe that's what we do.
But as soon as the hand or the leg moves a fraction, the sensation returns.
Hey - maybe I'm just waffling at the screen.
Good writing.
Hugs, Av

What is in the past is best left int he past, not resurrected to haunt us anymore. That is an amazing and insightful expression of forgiveness not only of self but those who transgressed in the past. It is truly the only way to be free of the pains of the past.

Your cloud of guilt and always rains is good!
It's not as if we are stuck (get rid of the And)
Lets be real (no and here either)
Ingrid is a wise, loving woman. Her name deserves to be capitalized!!!
