Hi Spiritual Echo,

This is a wonderful tribute to your fanstory heroic writers. I am so sorry I just gave out my last six as this piece deserves. There are some good mentors on this site which keeps us coming back! Well done and good luck in the contest...blessings, chey

I admire your tenacity in pursuing your writing goal. You've apparently come a long way and progressed. I think you definitely have talent and potential. This particular piece I felt could have been better thought out prior to posting. It jumps around and sort of rambles, not particularly following the prompt. I try to read any piece for content, but can't help notice some errors. Since I don't consider myself a proof-reader, I don't go through a piece trying to correct all the errors, and feel that is the author's job. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is my feeling. Below are a few of the first things I caught:

1) "Good on them." You may have been taking some poetic-type license here; however, I'd use "Good for then."
2) "Who among of us has not corrected or edited our kids essays deciding their ideas were brilliant, but lacking form, needy of grammatical correctness and making minor revisions to ensure the elusive A on the report card?" This is a run-on sentence. You have several throughout the piece.
3) "Kids leave, diplomas in hand (needs a comma), and..."

I agree with you about FS and the help it can be to all of us. As I said, I believe you have real potential and wish you all the luck with your writing. God Bless!

Considering it was my contest and I will do everything in my power to ensure other contestants, if any grab the cash, you must be right, I probably misunderstood the prompt!

Good on them is a colloquial statement tha is common in Canada.

Thanks for the rea. Apreciate your thoughts and your time and kindness.

An amazing story to read. Not just for the authors that you have connected with and felt a part of, but for me the biggest plus of this whole story was the blooming of the flower that was YOU.
Yes I enjoyed reading and seeing within my imagination the author of this piece and all her own challenges.....pushed aside to aide another.
Wonderful work, and sentiment.
Good Luck in the contest.
Thank you for sharing a deeper part of yourself.
Maureen

I should never have started a contest. Really so unfai. It cost me $11 to create and enter and at this point there is only one other contestant and I will vote for her/him....I should have simply posted, but thatnks for reading and I'm sure you understand.
reply by Maureen's Pen on 08-Jul-2011
Thats too bad, but don't you need at least two others on top of the organizer? Then it would be voided if not? I don't know much since I am relatively new to FS, and I cannot write stories....I thought what you wrote was wonderful...truly...

Just two. Please look it up and vote for the other, don't vote for me because at this moment I feel dishonest staging a contest when all i wanted was to say thank you.

This is rather hard to judge, the subject
or the writing. So I have averaged
it out. I might add that this
has a certain expressive
content that could perhaps
be channeled into a
novel. Regards Mel...

you are too funny and you entirely missed the point, but your rating i appreciated.

You make assumptions in your writing that are far from the mark.
There are successful authors on this site. And you assume that I am being funny. I am not. Just honest, as I hope my reviewers are... Mel.

Where are the 6's when you really need them? This really touched on a subject dear to my heart. It would be hard for me to pick a single author of the many I have grown to love here on FS. The two you mention are already on my list. You have given me plenty to think about and the clock is ticking so I best put on my thinking cap and get to work. This is brilliantly written and comes from the heart.

I've missed your contributions and the lure of packing it all in and becoming a regular at the breakfast club.

This piece conveys its message with conviction and sincerity. Underlying that is a current of gratitude which I find refreshing, because in some pieces ego seems to lead the way. Here there is a genuine feeling for the success of others. I think that wisdom comes with the addition of years.
If I had "The Blank Page" on paper on my desk, there are a few little additions I'd make, like commas in certain places. Re-read it to yourself aloud and you'll find them. In the 3rd line I think the expression is "Good for them." Nothing big, just little things you'd want to tweak before submitting. Spiritual Echo, where are you? Come to the critique group to which I belong. It is fun and very helpful.

The tragedy is I have been writing with no thought or concept of publishing, just proving to myself that I could. No idea about this group , please explain.

Yes, I know I'm missing a few here an there, but I tossed it off and didn't actually think it would go anywhere or serve any purpose other than my need to thank some and two in particular.

If you haven't joined a writer's group in your area, you should look for one. I belong to three---all slightly different. They have been tremendously helpful in helping me improve both my writing and my self-confidence. Even if I became a famous writer, I'd try to attend when I could. the feed back is invaluable. The nice part is that you'll receive varied responses to your work(just like Here) and you can choose to use or discard the ones that work or don't work for you. The author always has the final say. The joy is in the process of writing, but the more finished a product you turn out, no matter the goal, the more you'll enjoy it and want to go on. Keep the faith and keep the pen moving.

Very nice writing! It was a pleasure to read, and overall, I really enjoyed it! The main character/narrator is very realistic and believable. Good job, and I can't wait to read more of your work!
