Well thought out and written with a touch of irony. As a Lay Minister in the Episcopal Church, I am well familiar with the angst that some feel about Gays. The ones that I know are something really special--just people. Regards, Bill

A well-written nice little piece of practising Christianity.
Whatever your sexual orientation, it should not matter if you believe and practice what you believe. It's a sad state of affairs that so-called Christian communities make excuses to ban or to scorn those who dare to be different. You have practised your faith in giving that man a dollar.

The person who wrote the article you spoke about many have a skeleton or two in his cupboard who knows.

Your story tells it like it should be. Good on you.

Provocative and honest sharing of the truth that anyone and everyone can have spiritual values despite differences. I do encourage you to revisit the last line. Did you mean: "Funny, I thought I had them..." (Is the second "I" missing?). I am so pleased that Alvin sponsored this contest to allow so many good writers to share very personal and honest stories which I am enjoying reading. I rarely enter "spiritual" contests or post faith based poems myself, although I am privately a very spiritual person. However, this prompt grabbed me and other good writers to share stories about their lives, which I embrace. I enjoyed reading your story. Best of luck in the contest. Sue

Thank you for catching that; I can't believe how many times I read that over and missed what you caught. I don't have any nominations for Reviewer of the Month left, but I'll try to catch you next month. Thanks for a great review.

Very beautiful story; experience.
Written wonderfully, and expressed clearly with love and conviction. And wonderful witness.

Great writing.
Good luck in contest.

My goodness, why would anyone put a gay person in the same class as any murderer and adulterer? I don't understand that.

Have a magical day.

I'm gald to read you have that viewpoint, Razz. Thank you for that and for your review.

You are very welcome. It was my pleasure. Great read.
I still don't know how anyone could ever make such a comparison. Gay person and murder? That's not right. Maybe you misunderstood the article. Not even an adulterer unles the gay person is married and having relations with someone other than their spouse.

    It doesn't make sense.

The article I read put legalizing gay marriage on the same level as abortion.
reply by Razz on 25-Feb-2011
It is in no way on the same level!
Absolutly in no way. Even the people who have the abortions are not always responsible for aborting the child. The people who are guiding them to have one will have to answer to God. Those girls and women are usually very fearful, confused, and in much stress. They are just looking for guidance to help them to know that they can allow the baby to be born and then allow a loving couple to adopt the baby. As did Elton John and his partner. That was a loving gesture. And there are millions of couples who would, in a minute, adopt a baby that is schedueled to be aborted.
Gay marriage and abortion are not on the same level at all. Impossible to be.

    Be blessed, my friend.

Dear Author; Isn't it strange how people who shouldn't judge and in fact are told NOT to (the Christians) are the first to point their fingers. I'm a Christian and there are days that fact makes me deeply ashamed. Taking communion as a gay person DOES not offend God. If anyone tells you it does, ask them to show you where it says that in the Bible. When they point out Paul's words - tell them that Jesus said to 'LOVE one another.' If anyone can point out Jesus's words about gays, and how one sin can condemn a soul to Hell - I will believe. ~patty~

Hello. I like the way you have organized your story here. Your last paragraph packs a real punch and you state your points very well. I also read the article you mention, and even though I don't fall under any of the descriptions of a "heathen", many of my family and friends do (hey, this is San Francisco - there's a "heathen" everywhere you look!:) Turn my back on them? No way.

'I guess I have good company in Moses, St. Paul, and King David.' - OUCH! lol

Well done. Cheers and happy writing! M:)

Mystery Writer,
your spiritual fiction is an excellent entry in the Works Inform Faith writing prompt contest. Your narrative is great with very good descrpitive writing. I wish you good luck in the contest. You should be commended on doing the right thing by giving that homeless man a dollar.
Missy.

Your interaction with this homeless man was touching.
To quote a sermon I recently heard, "God is there at the intersection of compassion and human need." God's love was working through you that day when you showed him kindness and compassion.
Thanks for sharing this with me. Best wishes in the contest.

Bravo Alvin!

Your well written essay on walking the talk vs. talking the talk is so spot-on. Oft times it is indeed the most simple of things, random acts of kindness, that make all the difference in the world. Perhaps, in this case, it wasn't your giving the man a Susie B., but it was the fact you acknowledged him as a fellow human in need. That is, my friend, a true Christ-like example of being a Christian.

Well done, my friend,
Ray

Good for you. I know a lot of people don't give to vagrants on principle...what primciple?? Who knows what effect your contribution might have?

I know that the issue of sexual orientation has divided the Anglican Church. This is sad. And hypocritical.

Thank you for sharing this tale of kindness. It reminded me of my cousin. He is a dedicated non-religious person. He is also the best example of Christian kindness in action that I know.

Yes, my friend who is a Wiccan priest (he left the Episcopal Church because of our struggles over issues of sexual orientation) is the best example of Christian kindness I know. Thanks for a great review.
