Sorry for being late on this posting of yours. I get so busy and go out of town every weekend but alas... I like your thinking and I am right there with you living by a lake in the peace and quiet of the outdoors and definitely would have to have a dog or two or more. This truth you speak of is something that I struggle with as I want everything in a New York second, yesterday, but I know happiness is not ever obtained in having reached a goal. I believe things only give us stimulation and not real happiness. You are right 'seize the day', smell the flowers', enjoy the moment. I cannot help but recall the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling who said, "If I can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same". Whew, sorry I am so long winded.
Anyhow, I know what you say is true and I appreciate your reminding us. It is written well and easily understood and so nice to know more about you through this writing.

My job is stressful(I work as a nurse) so I try to find some joy in each day. Life is all about the journey not being happy in the future. You make some good points here.

For me up until the last couple of years I really did focus most of my thoughts to the past. That past kept pulling me deeper and deeper into depression. I am finding traction and am now living for the day mostly with only the occasional time I seem to loose my grip on living for the moment.

Me too. I have tried living in the past and in the future, neither works well at least in my life. If I ignore the present, I have cut out the one place I have for success and happiness!DEbbie

Nice up-beat take on Life! I agree with the philosophy and commend the experience and wisdom that has lead you to this point of acceptance and resolution.
A few fixes needed to polish this piece. Read through as is (NOT in edit mode) and note the spacing issues in some lines. Also, substitute "our" for "are" in last paragraph.
Keep up the momentum!
S.

What in the world? I swear it was there last night--oh well, I can't find it now, so changed my rating to a five. Sorry, 'bout that!

I am not finding the spacing issues in this. I looked
through it several times. I did change the are to our. Could you please copy/paste the areas where the spacing problems are? DEbbie

Well written self-improvement essay. This served as a good reminder of the importance of living "in the now." The present journey is not only an investment in the future but also a source of pleasant and helpful memories we can draw upon during quiet moments. When faced with a current challenge, I can recall those moments in the past when I made through. Blessings, Hector

They say there is nothing new under the sun, and I guess this little essay falls into that category. Nicely stated, good message, but there is nothing here that hasn't been said a thousand times before. Nicely done, but can't give you any kudos for originality. This is a simple message of which we are all aware, but few live up to.

If people don't live by it, doesn't it make sense to re-approach it in a different way, hoping others will understand the message given a different way. What specifically would you write for those struggling with this issue? Every one else has given this a wonderful review. Please reply.

How is this any different from the standard, tried-and-true, feel-good message we've always heard? There's nothing new or different in what you've said, just a reiteration of a sensible, solid message.

Sweetness and almostt an innocence in this essay as if the writer has not been scarred too much by tragedy.

Its a nice read, but you have used the word "dwell" several times and it starts to stick out like a sore thumb. You also have at least two sentences that end with the word "is" and very close together. Please take a second look at your story keeping the above two points in mind.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.

Debbie I believe you have some healthy attitudes about our childhoods and sufferings. I am reminded of my problems almost every other day when I go to do dialysis. I do it 4 hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays. and Saturdays. Some people have to go every day.

I know that is difficult and I am sure there are times you feel poorly. I am a Registered Dietitian, not specializing the renal area, but have worked with some dialysis patients in the past before becoming disabled. Dialysis takes a lot of time. Are you able to read and/or write during those times, or do something to fill in that time? I take the handicapped bus which often leaves mere 3 hours of waiting and travel time each day.I generally use this time for writing. The bumpy bus makes it difficult, but I type into English instead of busseeze one I get home. This way, I can make that time semi useful as much as it. I am so glad to have met you and plan to follow your work. If I get behind and don't get to you, please don't feel offended as I do have a busy schedule during the week days ans occasionally come home to tired to do lot of reviews, Take care Charlie and I am so glad you have joined fanstory!

This is so beautiful thought out and written. Every point you make is true. The way you've put your thoughts together is clear and concise and they give all of us something to think about. If one strictly lives for the future, and it never happens for whatever reason, that person hasn't really lived. As you suggest, it's important to live in the now and by doing so the future may even surprise one with something even better than what they are hoping to achieve. I love this, Debbie. Thanks so much for sharing. The perfect read for a gloomy Sunday afternoon! xxxx my friend. By the way I love the picture. It's so peaceful, kind of wish I were there now...lol! deb
