We all need leaders. This man is selfless. I hope he survives in his motality. I don't think here is an arrogant bone in the man's body, but man the courage this must take is unbelievable.

I don't know what country you are from but I think it might be Canida. At any rate, you wrote a powerful and impressive essay on our American president. I'm sure many will disagree with your posture but I applaud you. There is way too much ignorance and bias when it comes to the way so many Americans view our president.

would hace access to health care (would have)

Why can't you suspect that I am just a well read dirt farmer from Kansas?
reply by BethShelby on 18-Sep-2010
I think it might be because you told one reviewer you're not from Kansas, you seem to be seeing it from a world view rather than the US press and in your portfolio there is an essay called "Proud to be a Canadian" I see it is a satire and I didn't read it so I could be wrong. Am I?

No beth , you are not wrong. I am a Canadian, but I have spent a lot of time in the US and my sister spent countless years in Florida. She was a die-heart Bush supporter and regadless of your affilliations with any party, her vehement support, based on geographical coincidences always seemed to annoy me.

In Canada we don't register for arties or declare our support for any party. We vote the same way, I suspect, that most do with concience.

The die is cast and I think America is doing so much better than they thought was possible...or should ,because honestly there was a serious threat of bankrupcy.

I don't have a problem spitting satire out at my own nationality and I would not have submitted an entry into the subject of Obama's presidency if I was not sincere. Thanks for reading.

Thank you so much for this entry. It is my opinion that most Americans have a small world view, and are unable to see the bigger picture. Obama is doing the best he can, and I applaud him for continuing to stand even in the face of a party whose favorite word is "no", to anything the president puts forth. I for one think it is so unpartriotic to fight against our president in such a disrespectful manner. We should offer other solutions if we don't like his, not criticism. You've written the best so far in this contest, as far as I'm concerned. Leigh Ann

The most important thing you said here is that if you don't like what is being said or proposed speak up. I think its sheer laziness that so many Americans refuse to think and would rather attack. Kind of reminds me of how America marched into Iraq.

This is lovely, heartfelt and above all else, factual. Tis true America raised a son to be proud of and the world did breathe a sigh of relief to see that we could recognize it.
Love the line about inappropriate use of tobacco products.!

America will always be fron and center on the world stage. At least this time, this president, has the moxy and smarts to represent intellectual and solid thinking.

When John F. Kennedy became the (P)resident of the United States, the roar of approval from hopeful, previously apathetic(,) young voters was drowned out by the roar of fundamentalists, who swore that they would never serve a Catholic president. ====> Capital "P" for his title. Delete comma where indicated.

JFK (you should have addressed the abbreviation in the previous paragraph, and from then on you may use just the abbreviation i.e., "John F. Kennedy, Jr. ("JFK") became a rock star in politics and likely pivoted future generations to pay closer attention to their country. Young Americans shifted from their mantra of free love to adulation of a new leader. ===========>Kennedy wasn't a rock star at all to me. Now the Clintons, both Mr. and Mrs., are rock stars in my opinion. What a fantastic power couple they are - hope she becomes Pres. in 2010 and then we get the benefit of them both.

If Americans are so vigilant that they can avoid the Kennedy scandals, while at the same time trying to impeach a president for inappropriate use of tobacco products, then maybe they should give themselves credit for knowing the limits, ensuring there are checkpoints in place, appreciating the cause and embracing the future.
==========>WTF? Who in the name of all that's holy are you talking about re the inappropriate use of tobacco?

They had good cause and strong evidence to fear reckless power and egotistical rule. ======> which is why I'm firm in my conviction that our country desperately NEEDS the Clintons.

You might be upset about the falling crop prices in Kansas, but you raised a son, who against all odds, represents America on a world stage and does so with dignity. =======>Yeah, Bill Clinton. True, BO represents USA on world stage. I'd stifle his wife for a bit though. Truly,, who cares a rat's ass what she thinks?

Well my computer flashed off in the middle of my repyso I will give it another shot.

Did you completely miss the news about Bill Clinton using a cigar as a dildo on Monica? We have all participated in activities we ould not like mentioned, but glory girl this was big news!

At no time, in spite of the last paragrapgh, do I wish Hillary any harm and truthfully, enduring, surviving and scaling the height of excellence she has achieved is admirable in her own political right.

She is not the President because America chose not to support her, that''s all.

She might in fact make a better president after this administration and her role in making sense out of a ridiculous conflic.

In my essay I wrote about JFK and no one stiffled Jackie.

Michelle doesn't walk through the Whitehouse with a book of instructions and I would wager she is better educated than you or I. You don't have to emulate her, subscribe to her agenda or wear her fashions, but you should show a little respect. Obama was America's choice.

    I don't live in Kansas.

Spiritual Echo,
Your essay is informative and very well written. You make many valid points and arguments in your essay. I loved the Kennedy quote you used. I agree with you it doesn't matter about Obama's race, he's a man. I'm sick and tired of leaders or governments stirring up bigotry, it foolish. Your essay is intelligently put together. I commend you on a fine essay. Your piece is an excellent entry in the contest. Good luck to you in the contest. It was a delight to read you essay about President Obama.

here is another point for you, we as americans are upset about the mexican illegals that take our jobs what about the fact that we buy foreign cars and take american jobs and give them foriegn countries. We bail out car companies that should be producing a better product so we can compete.

You are kidding right? What America would would live in transient housing with a straw boss threatening the few coins earned every day by the migrants. Sure the fence could be built and you might successfully bar the Mexicans from trying to survive. You might even convince Americans at double the wage picking cotton is honorable work. You might be prepared to pay $10 a pound for your Sunday chicken, making $5.00 an hour for that harvesting job you slaved over all week. I think not likely.

There was more money spent in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan than it would likely have to invest in alternate fuels and make America less threatened by an oil embargo.

The new wave of hybred cars is a testimony to a growing awareness of the need to become more self-sufficient. If you want to compete in a global market with American built cars, we need to get with the program. Hollywood depictions no longer excite the world. Lets face it, none of us ever really lived in that kind of fantasy.

I appreciate your writing and reading, but think it through. I have no absolute answers, nor do have all the questions sorted out. This was an opinion piece and I am so glad you took the time to respond. Now think it through for yourself.

I agree with what you say about Obama. I am a Canadian-American. I appreciate the Canadian medical system and can't afford to go to the States. But I appreciate the private options for I have had a cyst on my neck and have waited 4 yrs to have it taken oft and still haven't come up on their computers, The surgeons are too busy with Botox patients not covered with MSI

Here is my advise. Walk into energency screaming in pain, they will look after you within days. Hey you could be experiencing psychological trauma from neglect, just make sure you moan and curse a lot and the proceedure will be done.

There's always a way to break the system and if you don't have the money to trip down to uffalo it ain't cheap) then force the hospital to deal with you.

I guess the Canadian mind frame is still one of patience and courtesy, but when it's your life, your pain, that interferes with quality of life then smack them across the head. Better still sneak up behind them, elevate your foot and swing with a direct target in mind. Wish you well.

Sorry about the stars, but you made a fundamental mistake right at the beginning of your essay. The so-called free-love era occurred several years after Kennedy's assassination. Actually 1967 was designated The Summer of Love. Kennedy inspired hope, yes, but your history is flawed. I don't mean to nit pick, but this kind of mistake undermines your credibility.

Peace, Lee

I was there and although the media didn't label the shift in social expression or the value of anyone under thirty, in the early 60's the experimentation with drugs and sexual freedom based on new contraceptive pills, was well under way and only reported when the media couldn't ignore it.

Don't mind the stars, whether its one or fifty. If you want to debate the "Summer of Love" as my credibility factor lets continue his discussion over health care. Yhanks for reading.
