From an Australian's point of view, this is an extremely well written statement. It demonstrates particularly, your personal beliefs of the present state of affairs. As a fairly non politically motivated person, I found this very good reading. I'd have to say that in parts, it was exciting.
Sadly I have become very cynical about Aussie politics and the people we seem to breed for those positions. Thank God for Obama.

You have had to face some tough times politically. But I hope you are part of the solution.

I don't think this is impartial to be honest, but it is well expressed and yes I am happy to see the end of the horrendous Bush years. The jury is still out on Obama but one thing is for sure he is one hell of a good speaker. Enjoyed the read. Nick.

Well Nick, just so you know, I'm sitting above your north border and he looks pretty good from here. The US has many problems, just as all countries face many of the same. Its only two years in, but an impressive effort thus far.

I disagree with the message at times, but I can't disagree with the professional manner in which you present your case. Well, all I need to do is get off my lazy ass and write a piece myself! Well done. Regards, Bill

This is a very well written essay. I agree with most of it and do think Obama does represent America with dignity. No matter who is president--you can not please everyone.

I think you meant Medicaid protects the very poor, not Medicare. Good luck in the contest.

Written by a Canadian it is sometimes easy to confuse. I will make the correction. Thank you.

Spiritual Echo,

WOW ! I'm so glad I had reserved my last six stars. This outstanding work deserves 6000 stars. It is an extremely well penned statement that certainly deserves to win the Obama's Presidency contest. I wish I could select one specific statement to highlight as the best - but EVERYTHING you wrote is superbly well written. My best wishes for a win in the contest, my dear friend.

We Australians watched in awe as Obama became President of the United States. He appears a great man.
The health care system is not good here in Australia either. A middle class worker can lose everything when a family member becomes terminal.
Thank you for showing us more than we see on television and giving us a glimpse of behind the scenes over there.
Very well written and a great read.

We should do more of this. I am a Canadian, but somewhat a political junkie and I watch common sense dissolve and know we are all connected, both in our mistakes and resolutions

You have a good strong voice. I remember as a young girl the warnings in select newspaper editorials that a special phone would be installed in the Oval Office with a direct link to Rome so JFK could get his orders from the Pope himself. I also remember thinking that nothing would ever end the conflict in Northern Ireland and that Ireland would always be an impoverished nation. I remember thinking I was a conservative when I was young because I believed in smaller govt (I was specifically thinking of the huge army of staffers that Congress employs) and less debt. Then I became a liberal (a liberal is a conservative who has been mugged) because conservatives now like big armies which require huge debts. There is a page on Facebook called "Let's stop blaming Obama for Bushes mistakes (he definitely owns the deficit and will be known for it throughout history). So.. I liked all you said and the way you said it, except for one mistake. The poor are not covered by Medicare. They are covered by Medicaid, a Federal/State program with huge variances in the income level necessary for eligibility. I survived cancer under commercial insurance, but the consequences of chemo, etc left me unable to work. After waiting 2 yrs to get disability coverage under Medicare (I had to go to court to get that vast army of public servants to actually read the reports from the 6 doctors who supplied medical criteria of my disability). After a year on Medicare, I am now officially poor. My share of the drugs needed to keep me alive is $6,000 this year, which is about 1/4 of my annual income. I no longer bother fasting during lent. I fast the last 10 days of every month, when I make the decision whether to buy medicine or food. The reason I have to spend so much for medicine under Medicare is that George Bush cut a deal with the American pharmaceutical industry to offer some coverage for drugs, but the bill specifically prohibits the Medicare administration to seek any kind of discount for the covered drugs. So while I was in the uncovered period, I paid more for drugs than anywhere else in the world. Basically I had to pay anything the drug company stated was their list price. If the Health Care bill is not reversed by the expected influx of ex-conservatives (big armies, big debt), some of this shameful gouging of the middle (or in my case, now lower) economic class will be stopped. So to go on so long, but thank you for speaking out in support of our president.

Your situation is tragic. I wish there was someting I could say that would at least, at the very least give you some courage.

Perhaps the most important thing you said and should share with aanyone who will listen is that there comes a time when we are all vulnerable and unable to fight alone. Those are the times when I'd like to hope that we put enough energy into the world that someone might help us. Darling soul, thanks for writing. Take your energy and your survival instinct and rage until the day you drop, for justice. You deserve care, compassion and understanding. My thoughts will stay with you for a very long time.

His ideas are sound, I'm just wondering if he's going about them the right way. No one will really know for several years. Nicely done. Just one thing I caught:

ensured that all Canadians, regardless of their financial statement, would (hace) access to health care. - have?

really informative, i learned alot here that i didn't know...don't like obamas tax policies, don't like the issues he has ignored in arizona, my sister lives on the border in yuma, and even their backyard is habitually vandalized, don't like his healthcare...although i'll be the first to agree, every american should have health care...if they're going to have a welfare system, (which they always will), why can't the people who have decent health care keep it, and add healthcare to the welfare system for those who don't. we are going to pay for it regardless, my husbands check is already less now, because of healthcare, taxes are going to go through the roof, and sorry....palins got my vote next time around....and i'm not even political! but....i think you did a great job writing this....very informative. thank you for sharing, blessings.
