You do have such a great talent, my genius friend. This is a poem that makes the reader think...The imagery allows us to travel to this war zone. How it must feel to hear this music in such a place...your poem allows us to get a glimpse of this but within the safety of our abode.
Well done, poetess friend,well done.

The contrast between the war and the uneasy peace of the mess hall where Christmas music is playing is powerful indeed. The teachings of Christianity versus the imperatives of war--an age-old conflict that never resolves itself, an inherent dichotomy that civilization has learned to live with. Well expressed!

Beautiful way of bringing a traditional Christmas song to light in the midst of war. We get accustomed to songs and they're merely remembered tunes, but it's good to look at some songs outside of rote memory and bring them into every day life - in this case, for our war heroes. Great write!

What a great way to tell this story, through Christmas carols. You are a great poet. I want to read this as a stream of consciousness without punctuation. It is just a suggestion and doesn't take from how you did it. Well done from a fellow poet.

This poem really gets to one. You mingle the action of war with the quiet of each soldier's thoughts as they pine for their families and loved ones while sharing their Christmas meal. Then it's back to war again and they know they will stand together.
Well written. Best wishes for the contest. luv jada

Great sentiments here- But with the lines of those Christmas carols.. Irt was hard to read at the pace I am sure you wanted- Every time I came to a song line - the music got me off beat in my head- haha there goes the musician in me- but I have re read a couple of times and your words are great- just a bit distractingwith all the other sounds in my head now- good luck this is a dtrong entry for the contest!

This is brilliant, using a Christmas carol and interspersing lines of story. What a message is shared in this writing. This piece will help me to remember our military heroes over the holiday season and pray for their safety and swift return. It seems to me that you painted an accurate picture of a heart that is not 'home for the holidays' but far away. Great job. --Judy

A very moving poem. It flows well and you can feel a lot of emotion as you read it. If only we could all have that one true Christmas wish of 'Peace on Earth'. I enjoyed it.

Hello jsavell,
What a wonderful tribute to our soldiers and to the Christmas Season's true meaning. The rhymes were steady and the poem flowed smoothly. Good luck in the contest.
