You have a talent for saying much with very few words.
Excellent poem...I don't however think it was necessary to include an expanation of IEDs in your notes. It has sadly become part of our common language.

This is a wonderful senryu. That is indeed a bittersweet triumph. Some have to live with the reminders of what they sacrificed for our country. well done. Bravo

Hi Sue....this short poem packs a big wallop. You do speak the truth here and put a face to your words. I feel so sorry for those who have come home maimed and for those that didn't come home at all. Stunning three lines....blessings....chey

Wonderful piece and your words say so much. I'd love to see more poems about the vets, I am one myself. It is a topic that everyone would love to read about. THANKS

I honor all vets. One would have to take a walk in their boots to really understand it all. But, I never take them for granted. A very noble position in life. I saw this photo and felt strongly about writing about it. A tribute to his strength to deal with PTSD and the rigorous physical therapy after the devastation. And that is a triumph, although bittersweet. Thank you for your very kind review, Sue

Thank for underscoring and condemning one war method that has been responsible for so much tragedy (I believe the IED's have even been launched at civilian airplanes).
In addition, your piece works well as senryu with its 5-7-5 format and proper satori. I thought the title and picture were alarmingly appropriate.

Hi Joan, yes...I saw this photo and really felt the need to write. Thought the fewer words, the better. So, the senryu came to mind. Thanks for your most kind review and comments. Yours, Sue

Thanks for writing this one, SK. This is a painful truth to look at, and the picture portrays that very well along with your senryu. Think your satori is superb. Guess it would be 'bittersweet' to say the least. Very poignant for today's world. Well put. Take care,
Heather

Hi Heather, yes...after such a trauma, they must deal with PTSD and go through rigorous physical therapy at the same time. Takes so much will and strength. And that is their bittersweet triumph. Thank you for your very kind review. Most appreciated, Sue

This is a beautiful and thought-provoking poem. You have drawn attention to a very serious global problem in a most powerful way in a very few words. kudos.

you have taken a very hard subject and given it a very soft and simple edge, it is a triumph of sorts and then so bitter too, very well said, loved it

This is short but very powerful. It brings home the reality of war and the pain those who fight suffer. My heart goes out to our soldiers and you have, in a few short words, said it all.

sara-beth, I really appreciate your taking the time to say that. I never knew I'd be able to write anything. Heck, I couldn't used to write a "Roses are Red" poem. But thanks to FS, and all its members who care, I was able to flourish.
Your compliments go right to my heart. Thank you,
Sue
