Hello kiddo,
You've done an excellent job of writing about this lovely, detailed painting. Your poem really helped me to understand the painting. Your note about the convex mirror was very interesting. Beautiful job and a very enjoyable read.

You had me thinking with this one. The bride does looks like she's pregnant. I even checked it out on Googles. Says nothing about her being pregnant. Considered one of the most complex portrait of its time. You did a very good job pointing out the details that make this painting so special. I kept going back to the portrait to check on the items you mentionned. I love the phrase "in a most fine way"
This was great. Not only did I get to read a fine poem, but I had an art lesson at the same time. Many thanks.

**yay** - ha! I love art and am so happy that my work did enough to get you on google! Awesome! I'm from the crowd who does not believe she is pregnant. Her gown is so full, draped all over the floor. I believe the artist had her hold up the front for the draping effect. And in the 1400's and upstanding man commissioning a painting of a "knocked up bride"?? I don't think so! LOL!! Thanks for saying which line you liked. And for your most generous review and comments. With warmest regards, Sue

I'm giving you five stars for your work. Excellent poem. It was enjoyable and understandable. The poem flowed well and the rhymes were correct. Great job. I just copied and pasted from the last poem I read from you. You are an excellent writer.

What the heck I'm changing it to six stars. Good job.

Good luck in your writing.

THis is one of my very favorite paintings too. Van Eyck was so far ahead his time with a vividness and detail that surpasses so many masters. He would be honored to read this tribute to his work. Your poem is perfectly executed with well chosen words of praise. Blessings to you and best of luck in the contest, Linda

Well, she certainly looks very pregnant to me, Sixteezkid. Even the way she's patting her tummy seems indicative of her state. Look, she's even taken off her sandals because her feet are swollen, lol. In fact she looks as if she's in the later phases of pregnancy. You've chosen a beautiful painting and described it so poetically, especially mentioning all the symbols provided by the artist.

They stand there in the bedroom chamber, both in cloth so fine
He's donned in sable tabard; and her dress lined with ermine

Good luck in the contest. This was very educational. Penelope

This is a wonderful poem. You have shown so much talent in writing so much about an ancient portrait. I like your rhymes. They are mostly very natural. kudos.

Well, I am one who thinks she is not pregnant. LOL
Her boobs would be bigger, dontcha think? haha

Okay, enough with the silliness ...
This is a well written poem. Nice descriptive wording. Wonderful rhythm and obvious knowledge of the history of this painting.

Even without the artwork, your poem paints the picture very nicely.

I have no suggestions for you. This is fabulous just how it is.

Hi sixteez.
Very well done, and a great picture choice. I think I actually saw this painting. Your poem tells a fine descriptive story. I enjoyed this read, and want to wish you well in the contest. These contests do give us wonderful ideas, don't they. Fondly, Rebecca

Rebecca, thank you very much for your review and lovely compliments. I am a contest freak! HA! Because when I first came on board here back in November, it was because of the contests, I learned to write in many forms. And continue to learn with every new one. Thanks very much for your lovely review. So glad you enjoyed the painting. With regards, Sue
