Hey Sixteez. I loved how this started and the personification of the object held SUCH potential. So I was surprised and a little disappointed that you surrendered the suspense so early (line 3). Ah well. That aside, you ticked all the boxes of the contest rules with and ease that displays your skill and talent. Good luck in the contest. >W<

This is a delightful poem on the joy of reading. And it is also like a tribute to books. Very creative. Great job! Good luck in the contest.

I love this. I love how you speak about the splendor and beauty of a read-well book and its possible journey. I love books and go everywhere looking for a lost gem so to speak. Thanks for sharing.

To me, books are treasures. Their words take us to places we can only dream of and of being. I love slaying dragons and rescuing the village, or seeing how a child escape a dinosuar. They're better than movies.

You have QUITE the imagination! Awesome! Keep writing!!

    Thanks.Reading helps.

For sure! I couldn't write if I didn't continue to read. Also, while you're here at fanstory, review as often as you can and with depth. You not only learn what and how you want to write, but also what and how you don't want to write! Just as important.

But, there may be some types of work you think you may not care for now, but it can grow on you if you give it a try. It's happened to me about 10 times here! HA!!
Try a haiku? ME? No way! That's awful. etc. etc. Since then, I have found that haiku has been one of the biggest contributors to help me stop and think of word choice for any of my work. Sorry about going on!! Ha!

No, you have wise words. I read a wide varity of things, trying to be fair and honest. I write stories mostly, but have stray into writing a few poems every now and then. There's nothing great about them, but it helps grow my mind and expand it to think outside my norm.

I love reading. I put off writing and wish I never did, but now I am writing again. I have been on this site now for a year and hope to continue to live,

It is a blessing to have met you and call you my friend.

I will put you on my "fan" list so I can await your writing! I look forward to it.
So glad you wanted to start to write again.
I only started writing about 2 months ago. Never thought I could even write a "roses are red...violets are blue" poem! HA!! But, we can never underestimate our minds. Having been able to write poetry has convinced me that we can do whatever we set out to do. May sound like a cliche, but it is pure truth!

So glad to have met you also!

I let my English teacher tear down my want to write and express myself. Threw away so much I wish I had kept -- I started back about three years ago. Found this site last January and haven't slowed down since. Never let no one discourage you from writing -- it's better to write "trash" then never try or give up. Listen to your "voice" and fly. Love your writing.

P.S. I use to paint in "acrylics" as well -- haven't in the last year and a half. I learn doing a great sky, use a cotton ball instead of a brush.

Oh, the things I grab to paint with. One painting I did was entirely done with a kitchen rolling pin! HA! Great affect.

You can go see some of my stuff on the sister site here, fanartreview. It's under the name of sixteezkid, also. Nothing brilliant. Just a huge desire to "express"!!!

I have a daughter with autism and I did the one painting called "Enigma" about her autism.

Always a pleasure to read your work, and never disappointed. You seem to have a knack for writing which not everyone has, so do write on and on. Best wishes in the contest, dear one.

This sonnet is outstanding. I do love books and your sonnet is a tribute to readers of every kind. "A gift you are ~ with pearls and gems inside". That is such a lovely line. Flawless rhythm and rhyme in this poem. Such pleasing imagery. Best of luck in the contest. Blessings, Linda

I don't have any 1st editions but I have boxes and shelves of books. People say that I should give them away because I've already read it. But it is a book how can you throw away a book, someones life or opinion or just the memory of the enjoyment of reading it. joan marie

Very beautiful, Sixteezkid. This was a great idea to use for the contest - and you've done it well; you can really sense your joy and love of books - and sharing them with others. I always love it to, when I can pass on something worth reading. Take care,
Heather

Hi Sixteezkid...First of all I think raising six children is a definite achievement! I am very fond of the English sonnet and realize how difficult they can be. You have done a fine job with this one. The iambic Pentameter is well done and the rhyme is fluid. Well done....blessings....chey

I guess if I can raise 6 kids, I should be able to concentrate enough to write a sonnet! HA!! Bless 'em. It's all been worth it. Thank you so much for your great review and compliments. :-)) Sue
