I cannot BELIEVE this was your first sonnet. People who write them for years wouldn't do a better job. The sonnet structure is adhered to spot on, the pentameter in place, rhyming on the up and up. You chose a powerful theme for your poem, the one the entire world could relate to, as the crush of Titanic was one of the worst tragedies it beheld, like the last day of Pompeii. Beautiful work, a great picture to accompany it (I wonder how many treasures are still buried with the Titanic, in the deep? [smile]. Excellent work. I was one very lucky gal in that when I posted the first 'draft' of this, I asked for help from those in the know, and received it. I couldn't believe the difference, and to say I appreciate that help is an understatement. Thank you so much Di. Titanic has always been a source of fascination for me - the ship as much or more than the movie. Writing sonnets are extremely difficult I find. Some days, they flow naturally, other days, you couldn't write one if you tried. That's my experience thus far.
Since the story is so sad, and your wording worked so well, I think you will do very well. Great piece.

This is a lovely sonnet, alpacalady. I loved the movie of the Titanic, but never read the book.

Yes, this is my first attempt at one, and they ain't easy. I tried to write another sonnet form thingy after this and like you, couldn't do it. So wrote some other silly fluff instead! Thanks so very much for your very kind review xoxoxoxoxoxo

This is by far the best one I have read to date. You have not only done a great job on the sonnet, you have also told a wonderful story about one of the last century's worst disasters. The rhyme and rhythm is perfect and it flows along well.

My dear Cherub, my first effort at this was a bit ... poor to say the least! Thanks to the helpful advice of a couple of fine friends, I was able to tweak it into sonnet form and save embarrassing myself! Your words of encouragement are like music to my aural passages, and to have you, who is nothing short of a genius herself, calling me that very word is like nectar indeed.
