Shawshank Redemtion is one of my all time favourite movies, and yes your story is reminisent of the movie. It is very well written and rhymed and reads very smoothly. I wish you luck in the contest Kay

Thanks so much Kay! I love that movie too (obviously!), along with the Green Mile, they're my two favourite Stephen King-based movies of all time. I'm happy you liked this poem and very much appreciate you stopping by and reviewing. Thanks also for the good luck wishes! xoxoxoxoxo

Great poem, Chris. Nice consistent beat and rhyme. Well done, my friend. Good luck with this one in the "Poetic Art" contest.

A highly original entry in this contest - haven't really come across story poems before, and it's a compelling story at that. The verse about chipping away stone with pen - I really like that image. You should do well in the contest. :-)

Hopefully! I've been lucking out lately, although scored a 3rd in one not long back, but that doesn't show up on our bio's! Thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement here and the five stars. I'm glad you enjoyed this one xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

My husband was a gifted photographer, so we went to many juried photo shows. Even if he was not entered in one, I would look at all the winners and the not-winners and often wonder why the hell my favorite photo had not even received honorable mention or why that ugly old thing had won. Sometimes I approved of the judges' choices and sometimes left bewildered. Winning is lovely, but not winning means nothing. :-)

This poem is such a strong statement about love of a parent for their child. I have heard that nothing is stronger than a woman with a mission. Excellent imagery and use of the contest picture. Your rhythm and rhyme are always flawness. Natural poet, you are! Best of luck in the contest with this winner. Blessings, Linda

I love your take on the artwork. I love the fact that you created a whole complete poetic story around them instead of just an emotion. I wish you the best of luck in the contest. This is quite good.

Coming from you my friend, I feel highly praised indeed. This idea was the first thing I thought when I saw the pic, but then I got stuck with how to write it! Then decided, the hell with it, just write the bloody thing!

So thanks, as always, for your continued encouragement and support, and your good luck wishes. However, your take on this pic was pretty darned good too (has anyone joined you yet?) xoxoxoxoxoxxo

That was awesome, and you know what it was a perfect tribute to Shawshank. Okay now I need to tell you, that Alpaca is the most adorable creature, he looks just like a stuffed animal.

Yes!! They DO look like stuffed animals, don't they? I could never put my finger on it, but you've squashed a mild botherance I've had with what it was they reminded me of! You know, we had a little baby girl born yesterday (she's not so little as babies go really) and she looks like Bambi, but without the spots. She has a fawnish spattering on her topsides and a face just like that legendary deer. They are truly adorable, as you say!

But hey, thanks so much for your kind review! The pic made me think of that movie as soon as I saw it - I'm glad you feel this is a fitting tribute to it! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Oh I wish you'd put a picture of the stuffed baby animal up! I'd love to see it.

When I get a pic of the little Bambi-girl, I'll post it up with (hopefully) a fitting tribute to her, just for you!

Oh thank you I cant wait, is she fuzzy? must be hard to keep your hands off of her, I would be hard pressed

Great rhyme scheme and very effective in this well composed piece of poetry. It rang with a musical tone and brought the message out uniquely. I have nothing to critique and noticed no spag issues. I thank you for sharing. Please, take care.
