Indeed time does fly! I can relate to it all with my children who are all grown and now have children of there own. A different world now, however! Great job on all the comparisons!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm still in the midst of it, but I can feel the time flying by too quickly, especially with one on the verge of becoming a teenager.

Congrats on your first milestone and welcome on board! And what a great post to mark this event. So relatable as we look back on our children reaching all those milestones themselves at such pace. Some lovely examples, good alliteration, slight poignancy at the passing of time...and a great and very apt visual. Well done on your strong contender and good luck! Debbie

Thank you so much! I was shocked and thrilled to win the contest with this poem, and I am loving it here at FanStory so far!

It really does go fast in retrospect. I like how you referenced the change in stages from the types of scores of the newborn to college entrance to dresses, drinks, and vehicles driven. Great poem for parents. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you so much!! I was hoping there would be plenty of parents here on the site who it would really resonate with.

Once I had researched the the acronym APGAR then this delightful poem made perfect sense.
This poignant piece traces the passage of childhood by means of vivid, evocative contrasts. The transitions - sippy cups to Starbucks, the Flintstones to engines - signify the passage of time, with a bittersweet tinge of nostalgia. The final question lingers there, emotionally charged, to convey the tug-of-war that is the heart of parenting.
What a great entry for a first time post and also for the 25 word poem.
All my children are now middle age adults and this poem allowed memories to enter my life again.
Well done! And good luck.

Thank you so much for your kind review! I was definitely nervous to make my first post, so I'm very grateful that you received it well. I'm so glad it brought up those memories; I'm sure there are endless great ones! I wasn't sure if people would be familiar with APGAR or not, but it fit so well, I had to use it. I put a note in the "Author's Notes" section explaining what it means, but I figured most people probably never look at that section.

You are most welcome.

I love how your poem manages to show the whirlwind of growing up. I like how you have quick shifts from childhood to adulthood. You show what
every parent can feel. Such a unique way to share how fast time flies. And with just 25 words! Beautifully done! What a wonderful first post! Welcome!

Thank you so much!! I'm right in the middle of it with my kids, but it's like I can already feel it slipping away sometimes. I'm excited to be here at the site and looking forward to reading and sharing more work.
