You can be so graphic, Yvette. And dark! I absolutely love it. This short little thing stabs me in the gut. Even on New Year's Eve, midnight has never been welcome to me. If I happen to be awake, I always wish it were the next day. And night sounds like wolf howls and loons get to me. They creep me out. Even train sounds make me long for daylight.
You touched all my fears. Amazing.

My goal is to find my 'happy pen' again.... I'm hoping this one was the last of the darkness leaving... I'm finally feeling like 'me'... or at least the new single 'me' !! :) ;) Thanx so much for those wonderful stars, my friend, and glad my pen still works to create the moods it searches to express.... Enjoy those grandkids, my lady! ;) Yvette

Excellent, I am a bit behind with my reviews, though trying to catch up, I really like the way these wolf renga are going, read a few earlier, and look forward to reading them all****kahpot

Looks like someone else is playing 'catch-up' .... I'm just getting started though! ;) Thanx so much, sir, for taking the time to review all of my recent poems... Looking forward to finding more time and smiles and getting the New Year 'off on the right foot'! ;) Take care of you out there! ;) Yvette

This dark poem personifies the fear (of darkness itself, perhaps?) It is interesting how the imagination echoes with what we can't perceive. I did find it hard to come to terms with stabbing the soul, but it does convey the macabre scene before the dawn.

Maybe not so much macabre as painful... but I'm letting all that go... It's a New Year and my 'soul' is smiling with the cold, crisp air and the newness I can almost feel... haven't felt this way in a long while and I'm not letting it go!! ;) Thanx for the review, sir, and I promise more smiles in the near future! ;) Yvette

Thanks for this dark poem. It's more like Minnesota night. I thought you live in the south. We are not too bad here, no blizzard like Chicago, even Omaha.

I will also have to chime in and try to make it happier.

Yvette,

A nice macabre addition to this collaborative effort. The eerie feeling is exemplified in your few lines. Your first line is descriptive phrasing for sure!

Mark

P.S. Best wishes for 2025 and beyond.

This poem is full of dramatic language. Your nouns and verbs are strong and evocative. The poem is dark and chilling. You're starting the new year off strong with this one.

This is a totally awesome Renga poem. The words are powerful and speak volumes. The picture you chose compliments this poem quite nicely.

I am a nature lover and that picture stirs my soul. Thank you for that.

    Yvette,

You're welcome my friend. Missed seeing you around. Have you been a busy lady?
reply by the author on 05-Jan-2025
Yes!! But in a good way! My boys were all here for a few days at Christmas (they're all grown!) and my youngest (in grad school) will be leaving in the morning... so I've been cooking and enjoying the company!! :-) I should be back in a more usual swing soon... although I may actually start back some of my writing (prose) I used to really enjoy - although poetry will certainly not be going anywhere! ;) Thanx so much for asking, Lady C -- means alot!! ;) Yvette

I love the Renga form too. I'm glad Gypsy started the book. I've learned a new form. Yours is fabulous, Yvette. I often wonder why the wolf howls at night. Is he frightened? Could be, but unlikely!! Lol. I really enjoyed your chapter in the book. Well done, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Yvette,
This is a great addition to the Renga book series. I like the spooky ambiance you've created using the noble creature of the wolf.
Nice work, Yvette,
Cindy

This sensory experience in renga form sure makes this reader glad she is not out at midnight among wolves or coyotes, or other things that go howling through the night. Even the echoes are nearly as scary as real teeth stabbing and cutting through prey.
