We all need encouragement.
If we're not strong, others might overtake us and our drum.
Then, we can't play our song, or the sound is drowned out.

Some lucky ones get a drum to beat and march to. Others are forced to march and dance to someone else's drumbeat. It gets worse if you have trouble adjusting to and following the beat.

Thank you for the great review. Yes, being in the military I still beat to my own drum with some restrictions. Like Frank Sinatra sang, "I did it my way"

People who beat their own drum and dance to their own music usually enjoy doing things their way, and experience their own consequences. You have to live out your own fantasies and try your own ideas. Otherwise, you will never know who you really are. The words of your poem are well though out and thought provoking. Your drum has brought you far.

Stay true to yourself. Your poem reminded me of my own youth. I always went with the flow, unless it would bring me trouble. Now I still go with the flow, but the crowd I run with are less active.

Thank you for the wonderful review. I have stayed true to myself and will until the day I die. I am one of those people you like or you don't, no in between. I say what's on my mind and I don't sugar coat. My husband says I come off abrasive.
My crappy childhood made me who I am and the Navy finished me up. I went in in 1982 and the ratio of men to women was 100:1. I had to be tough to survive.
