HI Jess, oh my sweet friend...this is so
sad...but to many times so true for family's
that have loved ones in the serve...
it's wonderful to know we will see those who
never made it home...in heaven...but there are
those who were left behind...sigh...a lifetime of
pain...we do by the Grace of God go on...and memories
made become smiles...some memories relived...
I love your poem sweet girl...and your picture speaks
for itself...very well written...love you...Linda xxoo

Such a beautiful, sweet-sad poem, Jess, of a woman's great love for her man as she awaits his return home from war that never comes. Then she meets him again at the door to heaven where he's been waiting for her to come home to him.
Much of your free verse reads so much like a rhyming poem because you pay so much attention to the meter. It reads so very well with that 7-5 iambic pattern. Just a wonderful job.

This is a moving whole of life story that reflects the pain and anguish so many went through and then have had to live with since.
War, the senseless waste of life caused by one man's greed for another's toys, using countless more to give their lives in hope of gaining what they wish to steal.
Thank you, Jessica. For sharing this.

It's devastating for the family when the final assessment of a loved one in the military is given just the "Missing" designation. Your poem shows how faithful the wife was to keep waiting and praying. Best wishes in the contest!

A very moving and heart rending poem that brings out feelings of yearning, for a loved one. I get the feeling they both met in Heaven? Well composed poem.

This contest entry is very emotional. You did a great job conveying that emotion. So may spouses have waited for their soldier to return, only to have lost them to a senseless war. Thank you for sharing this entry with us and good luck with the contest.

I think you have penned here a very moving, emotional rendition of two lives, even three, that have been separated by a soldier deployment, and that soldier being listed as missing in action. The free verse, broken into these stanzas, captures this broken feel to the relationship, of experience happening in bits and pieces. And you have some powerful images in here. "The little girl/ who knows only the soldier/ in frame" there you have the experience of the daughter who only can relate to her lost father through a picture of him. All that pain of the distance between them, of that lost relationship, is really hammered home there. I also like the part where she is told he is missing and the word invades her pregnant body. You feel that sense of loss striking into the heart of the daughter she carries as well. The light catching the brass buttons on the uniform is also a strong image, and we feel the person there being reduced to this one aspect of him, this soldier, leaving her. Really good work here. estory
