This was so amusing, Barbara. That is such a common problem you had, and if you don't really understand how your remote can control different input sources, it's very easy to make that mistake and not know how to fix it. I've had to help a few older ladies in my neighborhood with similar problems.
Sounds like you and Steven have a very special relationship and understand each other's foibles. This was a fun read.

I got a big laugh out of this. I can't even turn on the television with out help. I have had to make calls to get help setting up movies for my grandchildren. I get tired of people saying, it's not that hard. It is when there are multiple remotes. Great piece. Gretchen

This is a very timely read for me as just today. I was trying to adjust something on my iPad and I have screwed it up royalty. My daughter, who usually helps me with these things had to leave this morning to take her husband to have surgery on his eyes and I cannot get the iPad back to where it needs to be so I will have to wait until she gets home and after we have dinner, maybe she'll be able to get me corrected on the iPad.

My wife loved the HallMark Channel. I was the Westerns and old movie nut.
I can control the TV and DVD player, but where we live whenever the wether is windy or rainy, we lose transmission. One time I waited a whole week for one of my favorite movies, and the channel went off the air.

Gotta watch those buttons. I have done this myself. Your post articulates the phenomenon of technology that overwhelms people with all kinds of intracacies and complications, especially for people like me who grew up before computers. In the old days, you just plugged in your tv and wala. Now, you practically need a technician to coordinate and synchronize your tv to your modem and the system you are using. In the old days, if you changed your battery in your car, you just reset the clock. Now you have to reprogram the computer to resynchronize your phone or you have no music and no google maps. I long for those old simpler times. estory

I read mostly fiction as it's expected to be a little more far out than real life. But every once in a while it's nice to read normal writings about normal people to bring me back to earth and realize everyone hasn't gone crazy. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I assume "believe it or not" was sarcasm, because we would have all guessed the Hallmark Channel:-)
Barbara, years ago I was having a problem with my desk top computer and asked my son to fix it. He was with me at the time; home from college for a week. Anyway, he told me his secret to "fixing" things when they go wrong on the computer: "Just push buttons until you push the right one."
It sounds like you and Steven have a great relationship. Thanks for sharing this story (stories) with us.

I heaved a sigh of relief when I read this .I am not the only person who keeps pushing buttons and mess up things. I am just not tech savvy .My younger son gives me lectures saying that I take pride in being anti technology ..it is not that somehow wrong buttons keep pushing themselves when ever i am near...lol
I too love Hall mark movies But they dont have subtitles...So I have difficulty in following some dialogues..

Hello Barbara,
its delightful to read about your relationship with your son. I love it. I know what you mean about technology. I tried every way I could think of to get my book down to a publisher in Tennessee online. I messed around for at least several weeks. Finally, I had my son-in-law who is a big wig with one of the communications company up here to come over. It took him no time at all to figure it out and get the book sent down. I just feel lucky to be able to get my emails and post some pictures.
We have a Roku TV that is connected to our internet. We have more channels than we need or have time to watch. I like to utilize our great library for movies and of course more books than I can ever read.
I'm so glad Steven will be joining your family for Thanksgiving. I'm sure that you all will have a delightful time together. God bless and keep you gal.

An enjoyable read. My son is an IT expert, and when I need things done he sets it all up, and explains it all to me using so many acronyms it is like a foreign language. Therefore I don't use most of the features he has so laboriously and lovingly set up for me. In the old days there was just a knob to press for on and off, and to rotate for channels. Easy peasy. Lol. Well written. A great story.
