Really nice piece> You have a unique way of describing the characters (Guitar and paper) in the story and keeping the reader engaged. If you are still looking for a piece to help motivate your songwriting skills, may I humbly suggest you look at Pete Townsend's (aka The Who), song "Guitar and Pen" off of the "Who Are You" album?

Thank you, CM Kelly. Yes, I'm still dealing with my dilemma. On the one hand, I play in a band which obligates me. On the other hand, I'm three chapters into a story I really like. Maybe I'll just give up sleeping.
Thanks again. Much appreciated. Peace, Lee

Just damned 5'ers left! yes, I am back from the Netherlands, older(But not wiser), and subject to a closer scrutiny of who, what, where I am, and where I may be heading.
Really into this piece, I share the same two enchantresses. Played professionally for many years, just play jam sessions and an occasional party now. Finally bought a very rare Martin D19, and she seduced me into quitting writing while I explored her every nuance(Well, almost).
Although I still practice almost every day, I am coming back to my second love, reading my favorite authors(Yup, you are one of them guys!) and composing fictional stories.
This piece is excellent juxtaposing your two "Mistresses."
And, I suspect that you will main poised, hovering, between the two.

Ah, Irish, you know me too well. You're absolutely right. There is no 'choosing.' I'm a bigamist.
A Martin D19? I didn't know there was such a bird. I'm assuming it's a dreadnaught, but what else? Tell me! I just bought a bottom-of-the-line Taylor dreadnaught. The guitar is still raw. I can smell the Sitka spruce. But she sings like an angel, and plays like I had six fingers. I've decided I have to live 20 more years just so I can hear her mellow, When I kick, someone is going to end up with one very special guitar.
Tell me about this Martin.

I haven't heard your playing, nor heard your lyrics, but I've read your writing and know you are gifted. I understand not having the stamina of youth, or even of a year or so ago. Life and its many directions and distractions have taken their toll.
I'm just glad to hear from you again,
Take care,
Rhonda

Thank you, Rhonda. I'm probably a better writer than I am a musician, but I'm not going to set the world afire in either disipline.
I'll figure something out. Thanks again. Peace, Lee

Hi lee,
It is a dilemma and a half. One I've suffered myself, especially over the last couple of years, although music is not my forte. A couple of decades ago it was sport - rugby to be precise. And then it was photography and now I think I just suffer a sort of apathy but my job is pretty full on and demands so much that the page still beckons but... but...
I have no answers for you, my friend. The music has a bit of the best of both worlds about it but you'd be depriving so many of the joy of your words - and you know I don't say that lightly! lol
very nice piece.

Hey, G. Rugby, huh? I'd be a pile of broken bones. Now, photography, that's civilized--depending on your subject matter.
The music/writing issue seems easy to solve--do whichever I feel like doing at any given moment. Not so fast. I play in a trio. That means I have obligations. Besides, it's nice to do something that isn't as solitary writing.
There is no answer. I'll just muddle along . . . until I can't.
Thanks again, G.
Peace, Lee

I think you can probably work on retaining both. There are times when the ideas for a story or novel flow with such force that they must be written, and they take priority - but when there are lulls with that, as there surely will be, you rejuvenate your mind and spirit with your guitar, and you can be pleased to have two important outlets for your creativity. I think juggling both will keep you young!

Thank you, Wendy. Both is a hard nut, I'm afraid. See, one of the joys of playing music is that I do it with two dear friends. It's nice to do something creative that isn't as solitary as writing. But it comes with obligations on my time. I can't always decide to do what I want to do. Well, I guess I'll figure something out.
Thanks again, Wendy.

Tough decision. You can always decide not to decide. Let the inspiration take you where it will. I take it you sing as well as play. And you love an audience? Writing is lonely if no one cares but from the 15 seals in your profile it appears you have a gift. Esther

Thank you, Esther. Deciding not to decide isn't a real option. When I play music, I play in a trio. That requires obligations and committment. But, as you say, 'Writing is lonely.' In the end, there are no easy choices.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi, I loved this story. In the beginning of the story, I surely thought you were talking about two women. It was a surprise when it wasn't. I Like your writing
It is interesting and funny. Great writing and very unique.

Well Lee, I've never heard you play guitar, but I have read many of your posts in the past. To me it seems you master your craft, whatever it may be.
Maybe there's a balance where you can entice both mistresses to get along. It's possible...
Good to read you once again. Stop by again soon, you hear.
Be well,
John

Hey, John, it's been a while. I love the idea of balance, but I don't know how to achieve it. Musically, I play in a trio. That requires a committment. Writing, is solitary pursuit. I don't know how to balance the two.
Thanks again, John.

Well, it seems you can still please both mistresses. Your writing is engaging and entertaining, and I guess you are equally adept at performing with your other passion. Please don't stop writing.

Thanks so much for the galaxy, Natureschild. You are right. The problem is, musically, I perform as one-third of a trio. That requires me to make committments to my bandmates. I guess I'll figure something out.
Thanks again.

I like your comment of making a decision by not making a decision. It well describes the road of life. I enjoyed reading your essay, it is well written and holds the reader's interest. I can relate to your theme. I like to write and draw but find as I get older, my energy is waning. Best wishes to you.

Thank you, mermaids. Yes, creative people tend to have more than one outlet. But there comes a time when decisions must be made. I'll figure something out. So glad you enjoyed.
Thanks again.
