When is the next one. And do you think you can locate, for me, return tickets from Australia. In return, I'll bring a box of minties along with a partly unfinished Chardonney.

Sadly, they don't hold them anymore. The person in charge was stricken with MS and could no longer co-ordinate the conventions. I believe the Society now operates under a different name and no longer runs conventions. But they were fun while they lasted. Minutes and Chardonnay sound good though-LOL! Thanks for the review!

My immediate question was: How did this one not win, let alone not even make it into the top ten. If I had been one of the judges, FOR SURE that would not have been the case!! I find this poem absolutely EXQUISITE. These lines in particular mesmerized me:

pulling hand over hand the invisible lifeline,

the umbilical to the safety

alone and able to melt into the puddle of myself,

I find you to be a supremely talented poet, Gansach. I will read everything you post and savor every word. xoxo

Thank you, Rachelle! I am honored by your support, encouragement and opinions. I must say, though, that this was not the poem I entered at that convention. That year was Whispers on the Wind and I had a lot to learn. The following convention poems were Angel Whisper, Irritating Habits, and--the one that finally got me my Top Ten $100 & book contract (for One Light Beside the Moon) and runner up to the Grand Prize--I Ain't Never Comin' Back. I have a vague idea of the final year's poem, but can't recall the name offhand. Your reviews are always so encouraging and I appreciate them so much as I do you. Much love!

Sadly, no. There were a limited number published due to contest rules. I think I still have some buried in a bin somewhere. Perhaps if I ever find it, I can send one to you.

This sounds like an amazing convention and I would have loved it. After being in a couple it takes courage to go it alone. I learned how to stand on my own two feet a very long time ago when I was a teenager. I was married to a wonderful man for 33 years and when he died, I was once again on my own. I switched back to independent mode and got on with things. It is not easy, but if you don't go out and do things, then you stay at home in the loneliness you create for yourself. Well done with this poem as I could feel the bravery in these words, love Dolly x x x

Thank you so very much! I have had to become independent and rely on myself for the majority of my life. While, as a child of the 50s, I was raised in a loving, traditional family and grew to expect I would meet someone, marry and carry on the same as my parents, that didn't happen~and I raised my daughter as a single mom and was the breadwinner and learned that not having a partner in life wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I enjoy alone time, though I don't get much of it with my daughter and grandkids living with me, but I still have a full and satisfying life. Being a single nowadays is not the stigma it used to be. Thanks again for your very nice review. I appreciate it.

Very descriptive! You put us there with you in that crowded room with all those other poets. We share your nervousness
and your relief when you return to your hotel room. The IMAGERY is what makes this poem so successful. I also appreciate your sharing your experience in your Notes. Rod

This is very nicely written and I enjoyed listening to it. I am glad you had the opportunity to go to that convention. I'm sure it must've been a real blessing to you. I enjoyed your notes about it as well.

What a great thing for you, I've never been able to get to or even heard of these conventions, I've never really have any confidence in my abilities, I just simply like wrong and staying in relative isolation, well done, I really like this poem dear friend, this is a winner in my book, blessings Roy

Thank you so much. I was able to attend five and did make the Top Ten my 4th time there which, fortunately, was one of the ones my dad attended with me. I was runner up to the Grand Prize Winner. I don't think I would do it anymore (2001 was my last), I like the comfort of my home too much now, but I was grateful to go and learned a lot about writing.

I'm glad you continued to attend. It's always good to fellowship with other authors. You're very brave to attend in first place. Your fellow workers are a special group of people who support you. Thank you for sharing this experience with us.

Thank you so very much! I attended five conventions in total and my second-last I did make it into the Top Ten and was runner up to the Grand Prize Winner. With the book contract, I published One Light Beside the Moon: a collection of moonlight and madness~and have been gradually posting those poems here on FanStory.
