I really like these short pieces from you, Carol, they're all really entertaining. I remember the time I announced I was leaving home and packed my Buzz Lightyear suitcase with DVDs and books, but no clothes. I was going to live with my grandparents. A well written piece, Carol. I really enjoyed it.

My children pulled a wagon around the block because they knew they couldn't cross the street. I followed with the car just to make sure they were safe. The joys of motherhood.

Yes, the promise of food is a likely incentive to change any runaway's mind! Probably most children want to leave home at some point because of perceived injustices or other grievances. Calmness and diversion are good tactics. Well written.

Yes, I too believe every child gets the notion at some time but with no place to go and no food to eat, they don't go for long. Thanks for the review and kind words.

Yes, those growling tummies are likely to run away too far. LOL. I wasn't too little when I left home, but at 15, as I walked down the sidewalk to leave, my mother kept saying that I'd come running home when I got broke and hungry. But I never came back. Thanks for sharing.

Your mother didn't know you very well.... I can't imagine you screaming "uncle" and backing down for anything. My children were much younger when they ran away (circling the block). Thanks as always.

This story took me back many, many years to an evening when as a child,I wanted to run away. The only thing that kept me from leaving was I was afraid of the dark. Oh well! Good write.

That's a good reason! One never knows what is lurking in those shadows, especially in this day and age. I'm not sure it's safe even in the day time. Thanks so much.

This is a cute story. I'm glad the mother was clever enough to divert the child's plans to run away from home. Nicely written in only fifty words. Blessings. Carol

Thanks so much for reading another of my flashes, Carol. Tough to get a whole story in fifty words. Appreciate the thoughts.

It reminded me of my second daughter, who told me she was leaving home. She said she packed an apple to eat, and a pair of clean underwear!

This has a nice Simplicity to it: "
"To Mandy's house because I can't cross the street." I like the low reaction approach for the mom. This all has a nice tongue-in-cheek humor

Lol. I had one of those threats. I can't remember if I offered to help pack a toothbrush. Lol. At least, this runaway was a easy one to postpone. My mom says that wanting to run away is quite normal for kids. Fun story.

Yes, I think every child has at least thought it once and most probably more. Mine circled the block with their wagon and then came home for lunch. Thanks as always, Helen.

This is such a cute story. It reminded me of when I was ten years old and threatened to leave. My mom said, "okay." It was winter. It was also dinner time. I put on a coat and went outside. I was freezing. I wanted my mother to come out and look for me. She never did. When I got cold enough I went back inside. My family was having dinner as though no one missed me.
Thank you for that forgotten memory.

That sounds like something that would happen at my house if I'd thought of running away. But living in the country, there was nowhere to run. My son John gets very belligerent sometimes and goes outside to stand. He'll come back in after a little while. Silly man!

My Mom did something similiar. I told her that I was leaving home. She asked me if I was going to make sandwhiches to take with me. I said I guessed I should. She said, I should make one to eat here, and six more for later. Then she followed me into my room, and said I needed to find an old pillowcase to put my stuff in. She said, you can't take more than you can carry. An old camping blanket, a flashlight, a couple of books. A mayonnaise jar to use for my bathroom. A change of clothes. she told me a few other things. Then, she said, I will miss going to the drive-in with you to watch the movies. She teared up. I told her I could put it off for a while. She thanked me. Moms are crafty. Karen

Yes they are...I followed my two as they circled the block, pulling their wagon behind because they couldn't cross the street. When they tired and souched back into their yard, I offered something to eat. All was good again.

Ah-h -h what a lovely, childhood tale - the dialogue really inspires here -the straightforward, to the point declaration of the childhood tones as Mummy patiently engages.

Thanks so much for your kindness. My two smallest ranaway...around and around the block because they couldn't cross the street. When they tired and collapsed in the front yard (while I parked the car from following them) all they wanted was to eat.
