This is a good story, Patricia. I like your lovely doll, and I'm glad your granddaughter was able to put her back together for you. The doll and her outfit are beautiful. How did you begin speaking to women's clubs? That sounds like a great experience. I've only done that once, but enjoyed it.

We spent the night with a couple in their home before I was to speak the next day. (the following day.)
The next day was when I spoke for the Cortez Christian women's (The following day.)
was one other lady there who was bidding against me and I finally was able to get he to stop bidding when I had reached $27 for the doll. (to get her)
Christmas and she said, "grandma, I would like to give you a Christmas gift of having that doll fixed for you." (Grandma,)

What a beautiful doll. I know she means a lot to you. Not only for the doll and her beauty, but for the memories as well. You were going through such a difficult time in your life, yet found a way to touch other's lives. You kept a speaking engagement, even though you had just suffered one of the greatest losses our world knows - the loss of your spouse. You also supported a charity by buying that lovely doll. And then your granddaughter further blessed you by having her restored, even if it wasn't the original broken one.
It gives me an idea, because I have a doll my mother made by crocheting a dress for it. The arms have fallen off, so I put her away. Now, I know what I can do.
Lovely doll, story, and idea to fix my own.

That doll is meaningful for two reasons - you bought the first after the death of your husband and found it a source of comfort. Then the love shown by your granddaughter in wanting to get it fixed for you, to make you happy made this one extra special. Thanks for sharing.
