well-written haiku. An ant would have trouble finding food in that. I thought those were smart enough to get their winter food together so they hibernate. Maybe this guy got put out for bad behavior.

That poor ant... he's doomed. :-( But what an awesome Haiku for the contest, Sir Bill -- should do well, I would think... ;) ;) Thanx for sharing and best of luck to you! ;) Yvette

You bring up a point that I never considered. Do ants survive in cold weather? Do they forage in Winter, or do they lie low and wait for warm weather to return. I do know that they store up food, is it to survive during the colder months? It must mean that exactly.

According to research, each type of ant colony employees a different hibernation technique.

nice haiku capturing an ant foraging for food on a snowy day. the ant is looking for food but not finding any and missing the ease of finding food at a picnic lunch

Great picture! This is a fun entry for the Haiku Poetry competition. I feel this is simply ant karma for insidiously invading my kitchen every summer and causing havoc. Nicely done!

If this one could talk, he might say, "My feet are freezing!"

I just love that piece of of artwork, imagining that lonely ant, trying to find its way home. does anyone care, these individual ants are epitome of selflessness, will he get help? Unlikely, beautifully written, Bill, great haiku, blessings Roy

He'll find a crumb somewhere and drag it back to his underground thermal catacomb.

Aww, that is sad! I think it's going to be a long winter for that poor ant. This was really good, Bill, I'm going to try and learn how to write a Haiku, so be prepared. :)) I've not been around for a while, I was back in hospital with my rotten asthma. It gets worse as I'm getting older. I'll probably die for lack of breathing!! LOL. Got to laugh. Well done, my friend, and good luck in the contest. Warmest hugs, Sandra xxx

My wife has asthma as well. She puffs Symbicort twice a day, and it is not a concern now as it was a few years ago.

How is your wife now? I'm hoping she is out of hospital now and making a good recovery.
My asthma is uncontrollable at the moment, so the hospital consultant is keeping me in the their care for the time being. He and his team will see me once a month to see how I'm doing on my new inhalers. They've increased the dosage, and I now take two puffs morning and night, instead of the four times a day for the much lower dosage, and I have another little capsule machine that I have to have once a day, that's a strong one, and then the normal quick fix inhaler as and when I need it. I'll see how it goes. I'm glad your wife has got hers under control, it's horrible when an attack hits you. xxxx

As far as I know, I have never seen an ant on ice. Remarkable now that I think upon it. October I start slowing down and all the way to March I do not stick out my head much. I semi hibernate. :-)

This ant remembers Aesop saying something about preparation.

This is a clever and unexpected topic. Who would have thought an ant goes foraging in ice! Your choice of words is apt and adds humor to the short poem. My favorite line is; no winter picnic. So true.
