So true. I'm happy I don't have to deal with the endless dance. I'm happy with my sightless autonomy. I'm grounded in my simplicity. Thanks for a thought-provoking, insightful poem. Have a wonderful day.

Thank you for your insightful comments. There is no doubt that writers get to enjoy the fortune absent the facial recognition that plagues performers.

Hi Nomi, Fame comes with a price. I liked the following line:

prepare to dance to the music, on automatic replay

Also:
Sometimes I wish that I could overcome my fear of gossip, ever near

(N, some people thrive on gossip--247/7. There's never enough gossip.)

There's something said for being anonymous and having the ability to just live peacefully. The light under a spotlight is quite hot--too hot for most people to handle and lonely.

Great photo choice. Thought-provoking writing. Margaret

Thank you Margaret. I chose to be a writer over being a performer. Yes I used to sing. Writers, despite their success are rarely as well known as performers and therefore are able to move about without drawing a crowd.

thanks for a very inspiring poem full of wisdom i think i will have my crown in heaven instead of here, i have because of my faith i presume too many persecutors to be succeeding: they're dragging me down even before i could reach the top, i was multi - talent and described as fascinating, but starting is as extremely difficult as falling, if you agree ...
Take care and God bless You,
Sarah

As you are still young enough for your star to yet shine. I have full confidence that your day will indeed come. Please never stop believing, never stop striving.

This poem, You Will Have to Pay, allows that celebrity is a job everyone may want, but only driven people with skin of iron and a strong fix on reality can endure.

The proof is in the pudding. Stardom can occur overnight. Maintaining that stardom is a job not for the foolish, the greedy, or the naïve.

What a very gripping look on the concept of being a celebrity. I like your repeated lines that hammer home the reality of your subject matter.
A fine free verse you have here sir. It made me feel the tragedy of the situation.
Hope you're doing well.

There are so many problems associated with being famous. Firstly, people are jealous and want to tear you down from that pedestal, secondly, you can't really go anywhere in public and enjoy a quiet time, thirdly, people make up stories in the press and never leave you alone. I would much rather be invisible than famous. I enjoyed your fine poem here about the pitfalls of fame, a wise pose, love Dolly x x x

As always dear Dolly, I value and treasure your always positive comments on my posts. You have been a true and consistent source of encouragement for me. I agree one hundred percent with all that you say. Way back when I sought to become a professional singer, I quickly decided that I would prefer the anonymity of being a faceless writer with the fortune, absent the trials of fame.

The fame game wouldn't be for me. Elvis, for example, had no life outside of his mansion, and even there, people were always at his gates. It's good to here from you, my friend.
God bless,
Steve

I'll bet you are right about the celebrity and fame issues.
Even if you get by you will still have to pay - I think this line would benefit with a comma.
Best wishes.

I definitely wouldn't like to be famous, there's no way I would want random strangers always coming up to me asking for pictures. It might be fun at the start for a while, but I'm sure, for many, the novelty soon wears off. A well written piece, I enjoyed reading it.

This is all very true. Your poem sounds like a song with those words you keep repeating is like the refrain. People who have succeeded at one they are good at and have become famous probably didn't realize on the way up there is a price to pay for fame. You can never really be yourself again. You have a reputation to live up to and you have to fight to hold you place at the top. Nicely written.
