This is a good story. People are quick to jump to conclusions and they are uncovering some dark family secrets. Kids seem to have uncanny ways of getting their parents in trouble with their own misunderstandings.

From the mouths of babes...Innocent but certainly not understanding the adult world. I always tell my daughter she lets her kids know things that they shouldn't, but she says that's life. Who am I other than an old worrying grandmother. LOl

This story has a message: Don't judge someone until you know the whole story. At the start of the story, I was rooting for Tommy. As the story progressed, the misunderstanding clarified some questions I had in mind. That's what good writers do!

Well done.
I'm glad I'm not a school teacher, or authority. It must be an impossibly fine line, trying to read minds and fathom out the truth. And add to that that they are dealing with kids who have limited understanding and expressive abilities.
Best wishes.

Yes, I think it would be very difficult deciphering what's real and what's imagined. Thank you so much.

Great, thought-provoking story. It's a shame because kids *are* abused, but we are in a culture now where either just about anything is considered abuse (like a spanking) or, as in your story, the adults in charge really jumped to conclusions, and made false assumptions/accusations.
I've actually been through this and it sucks having an authority think you hurt your child or the fear they could take the child away. I took my one-year-old to the ER for difficulty breathing. They X-rayed her lungs (which were fine) but noticed in the X-ray that her collar bone was broken. I got the absolute third degree on this as the accusations flew. But because she had no pain from the break, they let me take her home. I got her to a pediatric orthopedist asap. He laughed. He said it was a birth defect that should have been noticed at birth-the bone is actually poking against the skin noticeably. (She's 29 now and her collar bone is still *broken*!) But the people involved made me feel horrible even though I knew I hadn't hurt my child!
Thanks for sharing your story!

Walked the tightrope myself and again with my grandaughter. DCFS had my son-in-law going to prison for rape... something that never happened. She made it up to get even and the DCFS had no evidence including a rape kit. When she went to the grandjury she lied and said the police had given her verification. she go caught because the officer had notes plus a recording telling her that there was no justification for the accusation. She just wanted a promotion and didn't care how she got it.

That's so incredibly selfish. I'll destroy a life so that I can make more money....

It was bad enough that his daughter would be that way but to have almost sent him to prison... He still has not fully recovered from it and I wonder if he ever will. He doesn't talk about it, but he stays outside in the garage a lot instead of with his family, especially if Corrie isn't home.

This is certainly a case of misunderstanding. Tommy heard the word right but not the context. It will take a few years before the parents find the humor in Tommy's recognition of the word.

A child is innocent and takes what he hears as gospel, not knowing or understanding the real truth. Thanks for reading and reviewing as always.

Well, that was frustrating for everyone. These days one thinks about drugs and even guns but it's rare to hear about one parent trying to do the right thing and gets called into the principal's office for it.

We recently had a misunderstanding of sorts with our family and that's where the idea came from for the story. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and comment.

LOL. Well, this one sure worked out differently than a I expected, especially for Tommy. I was never that lucky. Whenever someone was called to school about my actions, there was hell to pay . . . by me.
Thanks for sharing.

I can believe that! I am sure you had the devil dancing inside you...LOL And maybe you still do! You, like Mike, are full of life and want to live it to the fullest... laughing and enjoying. I am lucky to have shared some of those moments with both of you.

Definitely a six my friend. True to life experience. My sister babysat my son while I worked. He and his cousin were wrestling and he got a black eye. Two weeks later at Awana's at church he ran into someone.....At least this time they called my sister on the phone instead of confronting me. Laughing. Esther

Sometimes people who mean well, see things one way when they actually are totally different. It's a mistake, but at times, it can have serious consequences and they need to take a closer look.
Thanks so much, Esther.

Yep. Even my own view on what I think others think is highly suspect.

It is my opinion only, that those who choose drugs or alcohol over real life need to not be around children at home period. Screaming and yelling can be evry bit as bad as physical stuff. I know this for a fact. Just saying...... Karen

I couldn't agree more...in this case it was just a momentary set back with someone struggling with grief and a misunderstanding by all.

And that is how it starts. The poor parents didn't do anything wrong, but one word from a child and suddenly the parents are wicked. That was funny though, now it's the teacher and those in charge who are in trouble. Now that IS funny!! Lol. Loved this, my friend. Love and hugs. Sandra xx

I have learned the hard way that authority can make mistakes and though they prefer not to admit it, it will come out in the end. We had a DCFS person who had egg all over her face when she discovered how wrong she had been...in front of a grand jury. Her authority was abused royally.
