What if they hadn't sinned?15 total reviews

This is a thoughtful piece that reminds this reader how the majority of mainstream Christianity still thinks. So...I come at it from a little different viewpoint. I sure had to smile at this question, though:
Another thought is how original was Original Sin?
I like studying more than one version of all of this. The original Hebrew in one version said Adam and Eve were not unclothed at all, but in fact had brilliant garments of light. I am around children and young adults age 5 to 22 who have extreme disabilities. Most of them cannot even say two words in a row. Even when they hit their teens they have no idea in general what to do with a member of the opposite sex. So that helps explain how Adam and Eve were innocent in the Garden, because they only remembered or learned a little at a time, just like children.
Well... I have attended a Catholic baptism of a baby once. But my religious background declares happily that children under the age of 8 are already saved by the blood of Jesus Christ--also pets, animals, and people who are more like children due to mental disabilities. Baptism is a covenant or promise that requires being able to differentiate between right and wrong. We have another kind of blessing for babies instead, where they are given a name that will identify them on the church records.
Have a super day.

Hmmm. I read only this morning that man sinned even in the pre-existence, when as Jeus passed a man blind from birth was asked (John 9:1-2) "Maser, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind."
... hmmm - and as for pre-existence, how did Adam and Eve come to be, if they weren't whole before becoming mortal?
I agree with your final comment/paragraph, all children are innocent until they can weigh right and wrong sensibly.
Thanks for your toughts.

Deep questions. All I know is we progressed in the pre-mortal life, and it was possible to break commandments even then. But we start over with a clean slate at birth. That scripture in John is interesting, since I am around students more often with severe disabilities. My answer would probably be, "Neither the man nor his parents sinned, and medical knowledge would have helped prove that."

Hello Tom,
I've wondered about having a baby baptized before as well. It seems to be more of an attempt to prevent a person from never being baptized in the event that they never came to the age of accountability. I can't say for sure, but if you don't know that you've done wrong, where is the need for repentance? I would have assumed the original sin would have been when Lucifer decided to promote himself to the position of God. I'm not well versed in church theology or history, so I don't know for sure what other churches believe. Thanks for sharing.
Have a blessed evening.

Neither do churches, it obvious as well, as preachers and men vary their opinions reading the same scriptures. Satan, at work? Probably. He remains delusional he can take Father's place.

Why honest and thought-provoking thoughts. I have a feeling Adam and Eve were the essence of innocence.
Being told they could not do something in a world made for them was a deal breaker for them.
Hope you stay. You are a treasure.

I would have thought eating apples from a tree might be more socially acceptable and appetizing than fig leaves, and leaving total exposure.
Thanks for sharing.

Oh ... too much info about your loo! Interesting thoughts or streams of consciousness flowing from your mind. I think original sin was the choice to be independent from God - and has remained in all humans since. Thanks for sharing.

My brain has a mind of its own, and reacts sardonically with many thoughts. Glad you enjoyed it.

You didn't ask for anyone thoughts on the subject but I 've put some words out here. I thought the infant baptism was more for the parents to agree to raise you as a Christian and you would confirm your own need after the age of accountably. My grandfather was baptized as a child and he thought that was good enough, but my grandmother insisted, he wasn't going to make it if it didn't come from him, so he was rebaptized.
As to original sin. this Bible says without law there is no sin. Apparently, the law was obedience to the creator and If the only law the Creator enacted was to leave that tree alone, then their disobedience was the original sin. My 62 cents worth of comments.

My piece was written sardonically
Still, I appreciate your time and view.

Deep thoughts thought on the throne. I do some thinking there too. Like why don't we all go to the bathrrom every day for a nice quick release instead of constipation and diarreah by now?

If they hadn't sinned, we probably wouldn't be here. Either that or we'd be pretty darned boring. I am glad you are back to your whimsical stream of consciousness ramblings. I just never know what you're going to come up with next. Gretchen

Neither do I, but the spirit within hit the snooze button and it decided I had nothing to say
