This was a really interesting chapter, Beth. I especially liked the way Mrs. Edwards challenged you and helped bring you out of your shell. It was also very heartwarming to hear how that senior boy went up and held the easel for you so you could do your chalk talk.
What an interesting concept. I've never heard of a chalk talk before, but it seems perfect for someone who can draw well. Do you still draw? That's a talent I always wish I had but never had much of.

Thank you, Jim. I do still draw occasionally but not so often now that I am writing more. I would still enjoy art if there was more time.

I do remember this story and I love it that you overcame your first impressions of Mrs. Edwards. She probably bought the cheap easel because she did it out of her own money like so many teachers do. But hooray for that thoughtful high school senior boy who held up the easel for you! What a great memory!

Thank you, Helen. I'm pretty sure that easel was never meant to be used for drawing. Mrs. Edwards probably borrowed it from the local florist shop. I knew you would remember the story.

The details of your stories bring so many memories, like changing classes for the first time, and taking Home Economics classes while the boys took shop. I had an art teacher who pushed me, but I was in 10th grade. I'm enjoying your memoir and look forward to the next chapter.

Thank you for sharing this with us. And that's when your art career started. I enjoyed reading and I am happy that senior came to your aid. I can't wait to read more.

Oh, how many memories your reflections bring back here -- although I was a 'child of the sixties', small town school/life in the South definitely lingers for me in your words! Look forward to more... so good to read you again!! :) :) Yvette

I can understand how difficult this must have been for you Beth, being drawn into a whole new concept. You were brave and went along with it, and was saved by.a young boy who saw the dilemma you were in. I simply love this. Ulla xcx

I can remember starting senior school well, I was quite lucky that my year was the first year of boy's in the school, as previously it had been an all girls school and they added a boy's division for my year. Throughout my time there was no one above my year, which was really nice. I could feel your emotion in this piece, particularly with the way how your teacher treated your artwork. I couldn't believe a teacher would do that. An excellent piece, Beth, I enjoyed reading it.

I remember our clubs taking place after school, which is why I was unable to join any. I had to ride a bus the two miles to my house.
Who is Mrs. Edwards? Is she the art teacher? You might want to introduce her before she puts up the announcement.
I see now that she was the librarian; again, you might say this when you talk about her as the Gestapo.
This is very familiar - you must have shared this with us before. I remember the librarian and the chalk talk. I think your writing crossed over from one book or story to another?
This was nostalgic; thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Pam. Mrs. Edwards was the librarian who I was really afraid of in the beginning because never smiled and seemed angry until I got to know her.

Hour memories are vivid and so clear here Beth, I am not sure I could write such a comprehensive tale of my past like this. These memoirs are magical and a fine legacy to leave for your family, a joy to read, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly. I appreciate the review. Some of those memories can be brought back if you think about it. Since you can be put in a hypnotic state and can remember, it must all still be there, but just blocked out.
