Hi Beth,
This is a poem that teaches a lesson in life that works here and in the outside world. Meanness usually beget meanness. Words can cause a lot of pain which will return to you in the end.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great day.
Joan

Karma, thought of in many ways, and as a kid I figured it for a giant dragon like creature to shot flames from it's mouth, but also had huge teeth just waiting to eat a little boy up. That's what I got for listening in on others' conversations. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the review. I got some pretty wild idea to for listening to others conversation. Especially when the dropped the voice to a whisper and starting spelling thing.

Very wise words here that should be heeded. We do reap what we sow - sooner or later. Best to keep our venom to ourselves. Once it's spread, it can poison us as well.

Great use of alliteration! Five of your eight words began with a hard C or K sound. Wish those disparaging critics would be forced to recant when their calculated comments are found false. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you, Helen. I don't really like writing something with so few words.

I've had a few critiques that weren't particularly helpful when I didn't need them early in the piece here on fanstory, I still get the odd one, I'm not sure why people enjoy being cruel, but fortunately we press on, character building, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thank you, Roy. I appreciate the review and comments. I only remember getting one review that seemed a bit cruel. I've gotten a few three and four star review but mostly from new to FanStory people.

-Very good artwork and presentation, Beth.
-You have used your eight words well with a good topic.
-Effective imagery and alliteration.
-You make a good point about criticizing others
and show the result in your very good concluding line.

I think this poem will resonate with many people. Critiques can be tough but they can also be really hurtful as well, I've been given critiques before that have nearly left me in tears before. A well written piece, Beth. Good luck in the contest.

Well said! This applies to all of life - we all need to be careful with our words, both written and spoken. Words can destroy - but they can also build up if we are wise with them. Best wishes for your entry.

Thank you, Wendy. It can apply to many things. There is the saying what goes around comes around. If your words hurt someone it might come back even worse when the same words may apply to you.

One of the four agreements, be careful with your words. We never know how our words will be received and a throw away remark can cut like a knife sometimes, I enjoyed your clever words Beth, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly. I didn't mean for this just to apply for review we receive on this site. I wasn't even thinking about FanStory but it could apply. I've never gotten but one really unkind review.

Theme and variation on "what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander?" True, though. Especially in this small a space, words get around FAST! Telling one person is the equivalent of telling everyone!

Good luck in the 8 Words or Less Poem contest!! xoxo
