A sure winner, in my opinion (as read by a photographer...*smile). I adored this one, my friend -- I truly did. Into the bookcase it goes! (Those last two stanzas -- wow!!!!)

Thanks, Dawn. You are too kind. I'm working on a calendar project. If I ever get it done, I'll send you one.

Lovely poem Paul. My son-in-law is a videographer and photographer. I watch him as he works and it's amazing what he captures on his lense.
Your poem tells that story beautifully.
Blessings

Our grandson has recently shown an interest in photography. Your poem captures perfectly the joy and excitement of looking at life through a lens. Well said! Great entry for the contest.

Thanks, June. I've always wanted to be able to take good pictures. The results always made me turn back to poetry.

A very nice rhymical poem that flows with great ease. Most enjoyable. Reading your biographical notes, I sense a number of similarities between you and myself. My wife and I celebrate fifty years married in November, though we did have a ten year break midstream. I also spent more than forty-two years in the same job. We sound like two boring old timers who now spend most of our spare time writing. Hope life is treating you and your wife well. Keep up the great writing.

Thanks, bob. You are right about the similarities in our lives. I try not to be boring, but you are probably right.

I love your author's note: written for a friend with a camera. That must be the "friend" in the picture.
The first five years that I lived here in St. Augustine I had my camera everywhere that I went. My gosh, the history! The four-year-old buildings, the fort, the Spanish architecture, the sunrises . . . I finally felt that I had taken a picture of every nook and cranny in the city, and I put my camera away. A photographer needs to travel to stay engaged. I think.
Paul, I read this because it was about photography, and because I recall how well you write a rhyme:-) This post is, as always, a thrill to read out loud.
My only critique is "For Kodak's holy grail" - there are so many kinds of cameras now, and I can't remember the last time I've even seen someone with a Kodak camera. Would "cam'ra's holy grail" work? Just a thought.
Thanks for sharing the ode to photography - I enjoyed it.

Thanks, Pam. One of the reasons that I used "Kodak" was because it is no longer around - hence the search.

Wow! This is a great poem and I enjoyed reading this too. I was trained as military photojournalist and did a lot of photography. So, I could relate to this poem very well. Great work, keep it up!

I enjoyed this. Takes me to the time I traded hunting with a gun for a Camara. Glad I did. Yes, early morning times is the time just right. You did well.

Thanks, Charles. It's probably time to swap my deer rifle for a camera. As I age, that gun is getting heavier and heavier.

What a lovely portrayal of the photographer and his passion in perfectly metered and rhyming verse. This could inspire anyone to take up the hobby or vocation and forms an interesting and original subject for this contest. Good luck, Paul! Debbie

Thanks, Debbie. I haven't been too active lately. Sickness has taken advantage of my old age.

Hi Paul, this is a lovely rhyming poem. You describe so very well how the photographer tries to capture that perfect image that will make his day, his future even.
All the best of luck. Ulla:)))

Thanks, Ulla. I have another friend who will sit for hours just waiting for that perfect wildlife shot.
