Waist Deep In Summer

This is full of profound ideas which made me pause for thought. The opening lines are particularly strong - the idea of being waist deep in summer is very original and effective. When I read a poem I always have an imaginary voice in my head reading it aloud, and unfortunately for me the voice changed part way through from someone reading a poem to someone giving a political speech. I think that may have been the repetition of very short lines whereas at the beginning there was more variation in line length. But I would read it again for that brilliant opening.

Thank you for uplifting my spirit for a few moments. Most of us need that now in this time of bickering and division. There IS hope, and we need to be reminded of that.

Jim,
This is such a lovely, shining uplifting poem.
Your words paint a picture of a better season and better times, using Summer as a positive symbol.
Great poem, Jim.
Blessings,
Cindy.

This poem really was uplifting! I am guessing it was free verse? Whatever it was, I loved it. Thank you for sharing this poem with us here, and best wishes to you.

Just love Charlie Chaplin, with tongue firmly implanted in his cheek he delivers his message, but I loved your poem, not sure if that was tongue in cheek also, but it was a great theme, well worded, beautifully done, blessings Roy

Seasonal change is inevitable, but there are two weeks of summer left, and the fall is not inevitable. One can fly south of the equator at midnight of the equinox and it will become spring again. Fate cannot be escaped, but always subverted, just like Chaplin did with his Hitler mustache.
Thanks for sharing,

We can resist season's change
Can we? Cause it's 49 degrees here tonight. Arrrrrgh!
Perhaps a double meaning here? Yes. Yes, that's it. Now it all makes complete sense!

I like this pastoral ode to the summer season, as an extended metaphor for finding God. Mid verse you make that transition which is never explictly drawn out but implied..

Thank you for your warm and thoughtful words. They are so important in these days of confusion. We need to hear more. Good luck in the contest and have a wonderful week. Stay well.

Lucky you to be waist deep in summer when we are well and truly into the autumn season with high winds and rain. A fun post and I enjoyed that uplifting vibe here, love Dolly x
