Gail,
This is a great poem for the contest. From your poem, I can visualize the ground here laden with snow and ice. It's 70 degrees outside, but I still feel the chill winter brings from reading your excellent poem.
Best wishes, Gail.
Cindy

As much as I hate to admit it, winter is hovering in the sidelines, waiting with that white blanket! Nap time for the garden is coming. My roses are starting to wilt. This short poem highlights the seasonal change with great imagery.

A very beautiful image, filled with a sense of gentle peace. Your words are warm, soft and comforting, like a blanket. It' very well done. Sending good wishes for your entry.

This 5-7-5, Hibernation, has the proper formatting and finds the comforter of snow laid across the scene to seal the world away and begin a long sleep.

Yes, the cloak of winter definitely blanks the earth and makes me want to stay inside by the fire. It's beautiful to look at through my window, but too cold for me to go outside, A nap sounds good!

Thank you so much! Now that I'm retired, I enjoy winter more than when I had to get up at 4:30 am & go to work in it, but I still don't like the cold.

Hi Mystery Author,
Nature's vegetation takes the winter off to recuperate. It needs a rest. New growth will come with spring.
I love the painting you chose to accompany your poem. And I like your description of snow covering the woods,
"a white blanket over all"
I can sense the quiet of a winter day in the forest,
"a long, cold nap"
Nicely penned for the "Ode to Winter" writing prompt in 5-7-5 syllables!
Cheers,
Kimbob

Thank you so very much! It's not my favorite season (although it doesn't bother me as much, now that I'm retired and don't need to get up at 4:30 am, shovel the driveway, & warm up the car), but it can be beautiful.

Sounds like you may be from a country that get a very cold climate!
In Ireland we pray for a bit of snow as its so rare when we have it!
My cousin lives in Canada and Oh Boy!.. it sound like your poem!
You have put it together perfectly, beautiful choice of words, imagery and title.
Well done!

Thank you so much! I'm close to Canada--I live in Wisconsin &, while our winters aren't as bad as they used to be, we did have several heavy snows this last one. I love Ireland!

Oh yes, we have learned to plunder, and in a sense rape creation for profit and production, fallowness like the art of us resting and recuperation is to be sharpened for greater quality, so should the soil lay fallow. Beautifully written, good luck, blessings Roy

I think it would be nice to hibernate through the winter. I sure could use a good nap. What a wonderfully written poem. Good luck in the contest! Have a great day, and God bless.

An excellent entry for the Ode to Winter writing prompt. This is a lovely description of the land as it prepares for winter and the hibernation of all the animals. Nicely done.
