This seems like a good candidate for the contest. I think the structure of the poem is correct and the subject matter interesting. The cycle of life is very complex. Good job and good luck. Have a blessed day

Hi Nottoway. I don't think I've met before so it's nice to meet you

Yeah. It gets pretty hot in Texas. But I'm pretty sure it gets hotter in Death Valley in California

It has the highest temperature ever recorded

130°F

It would probably be very hard to survive no matter what you did there. But there's always air conditioning.

Even here in northern California since there was a drought and we weren't allowed to water our grass a lot of the grass has died and been replaced with stones, chips or drought resistant plants

So I know what you mean. Our hills change to green in the spring/winter and are brown the rest of the year. It's a big fire hazard so we have lots of fires here

And yes, it is part of the growth cycle of all things. Very nice poem.

Thank you for sharing

Than you so much! It is great to meet you as well.

I have been lazy about writing lately and I am trying to get back in gear.

I follow with the dismay the plight that all in California endure with the fires. I live in Bastrop County, TX where we had a huge fire in 2011. We have had at least 3 more I believe in th county since then. I got to Texas in 1990 while in the Air Force. It was dry when I got here (Sep 1) and I left the base to go to a military school in Alabama. That was February 199. When I came back it was brown again. The following year in February I left to go to Nevada for training in the desert. Two weeks later I went to the Saudi desert.
I did not get to enjoy Texas green until 1993 after I got out of the Air Force.

Even in the scorched times either by fire or nature, I look forward to the rebirth that occurs.
