Well the symbolism is quite strong and suggests that actions of one who really does not care. We often encounter people like this in life's course; we need to remember we then stand up and move on.

That's sad. I think "indifference" and "ambivalence" and that kind of coldness is the real opposite of Love. Hate is a passion and at least shows some kind of feeling.

Very interesting free verse. I can actually picture such a scene. Not with real fire of course. The poem seems to lend itself to the idea of letting the tension and passion rise, or a nice tease while it builds.

My interpretation of this is unrequited love. But it could also be someone he/she knew and then the other person spurned him/her later on.
I think it's the latter because you really wouldn't feel like you're being burned unless you had an investment in the other person and that person failed you
