Oh, now I understand why this is categorized as "horror and thriller" and entitled the "Coyote Boys." You give us all the reasons why the boys felt that killing their father was necessary and any abused child could relate to this desire. I liked the sensitivity of the narrator that Dewey actually cries because it shows his "soul." I also liked "Doing what needs to be done don't mean it's gonna make us happy." I wonder if Dewey understands his parentage now or if that was revealed earlier.

As far as I know, Dewey will never find out that his father disappeared. Huck made a promise and he'll honor that. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Such a great buildup to this scene, and such a realistic result. So, done in by a punji stick trap. Great and fitting result for Matthew.

I like the way both boys talked about and showed that this task was not done lightly, and also the way Dewey hushed Huck from saying any words over Matthew. I also liked the way Matthew showed real fear about what his boys were going to do to him and even pissed his pants while being dragged to his death.

What sort of effect this will have on the coyote boys in the long run, I guess we'll see. Maybe they'll come to regret it, but maybe not. And maybe suffering a bit of regret is just the price you have to pay for doing what needs doing. You've provoked some good questions in this story.

Hello Gretchen,
I guess now comes the part where they start to play back in their minds what has happened. Though Huck says he's not feeling anything, he hasn't met up with his mom yet. Well done on this chapter gal. I'm glad to see that Matthew won't be hurting anyone else.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Simply amazing. I am astounded, baffled by your ability, creatively you shine. It is deep, electric, fantastic, I am gobsmacked at your conclusion. It is haunting, intelligent, it is justice served. Karen

This is very well written in fiction story that you're ever written here and I enjoyed listening to it very much. I wish you the very best along with your cowriter on the story. Patricia.

Wow, is this the end? I am glad they killed their father. He was an evil man and deserved it. I wonder what happens with their mom and Ms Lynn.

Well done! You get my last six

"Get up, Daddy," I say, prodding him with * my the * toe of my shoe."

The funny thing is, if Matthew Strait ever had a soul, it wasn't in evidence, revenge will never be satisfying, I felt it but never had the real urge to kill, but then I never really met anyone like Matthew, they've rescued their momma, from a fate worse than death, and been judge and jurors on the daddy, there's nothing I can think of to bring the boys comfort. Beautifully written Gretchen, blessings Roy

This man was pure evil. He got what he deserved. I do hope the boys can forgiven themselves and not carry it with them the rest of their lives. This is a great story.

Daddy tires to run between us, take us by surprise. (tries)

Matthew is dangerous and needed to be out down before he harned another. Dewy and Huck are both brave young men to take a stand against their abusive father. Great writing.

Oh wow, Gretchen, it had to end like this for him because of your title but, somehow, I'd previously believed they wouldn't quite do it. But what a writer you are because every detail of this seemed utterly feasible and right. And cathartic for the reader too. Even Dewey's emotions afterwards were realistic because he wasn't a murderer at heart. He'd just been goaded for too long. An excellent piece and a virtual 6 from me. Well done! Debbie
