I enjoyed reading your story. I can see why you were frustrated. I would be too. I don't know that much about this disease but it sounds like it is hard to deal with. The story is well written and quite interesting.

Oh... dear. My husband doesn't even have a disease and HE gets fixated on something small... will I PLEASE pick up that leaflet on the counter top. Why? It's not doing any harm! Your pickle war though... I do feel for you, especially as freezing the jar might make it break.

We often try to contain our annoyance and let it keep building upon one thing after another until suddenly, like an explosion, our top pops and there she blows! I have a mentally handicapped son who I can explain things over and over to but they never set in.... then suddenly he can give his dad directions to the camp ground when no one else can. Crazy! I know my neighbors have heard me a few times!

That must be so exhausting and frustrating, and I think it is probably worse for you than for him. You wrote your story well and with clarity and your feelings and emotions were well portrayed ( and relatable). Best wishes for our entry in the contest.

Your story is a fantastic read--both funny and relatable. You've done a great job capturing the chaos of dealing with the pickle jar saga and the challenges of managing a household with someone who has cognitive difficulties. Your descriptions of the pickle jar's travels and the coffee spill are vivid and really bring out the frustration and humor of the situation.

I can only imagine how frustrating it is to have to repeat yourself over and over. Only to have the message ignored or your husband's obsession over rule it. This was a great story of anxiety and frustration that happens daily. I hope you find a little bit of peace each day. Gretchen

Thank you, Gretchen. I appreciate your review and understanding. He used to lean on me for my opinion, but now the disease has him ignoring or getting angry at me for trying to help him even to stay clean.
Best wishes,

It sounds terrible, I know about the cat propensity, we owned a lot of cats over the years, and Dogs, but one takes the good with the bad, I remember the film, with Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball, yours mine and ours, where the daughters was having problems with her drop kick boyfriend, and Lucy was about to give birth to our, Henry Fonda says, "You wanna know what love is? This chaos is love!" Great post Mary. Blessings Roy

I didn't know how difficult it is to live with someone with
Huntington's disease. It sounds exhausting. You must be a patient person.
Well done!
