Most of us have these stories. They can be of people, places, pets, or things. Things sometimes represent the person attached to it in the past. Like a little china heart that held a neacklace my gramma gave me. I long ago lost the necklace, but that china heart was my gramma to me. When it was broken by someone, I came apart. I cried off and on for days. Nice poem. Karen

Sad as tears may be they are warming to the cheek as much as the person or thing was to our hearts. Appreciatively yours.

Pets become family members and losing them can be just as traumatic and grief-inducing as losing a human family member. Your dog looks like a sweet little fellow. I'm so sorry he's no longer with you. Your poem is a lovely tribute to his companionship and unconditional love. Nicely said!

I never cried as hard and I have lost my dad (cut in half falling under a train) my mum, and three sisters but none in my arms.

This sad poem, We Two Use to Be, speaks to the dear pet as we would expect with this close friend who spent a couple of decades stealing one's heart.

I suggested we try again, but at seventy-five mama cried "Are you going to walk it this winter?" I figured that was a "no."

Ciao mystery poet, you now have two votes.

They fill our lives with much joy and when they depart they leave a vast void..

In time the memories of the good times spent together fill that void.

It hurts when we must make that decision but we love them and we don't want to see them in pain anymore.

I also hold near my pet cats to the very end and then I place a lock of my hair between their paws before I find a peaceful place to put them at rest in our garden.

My favourite pic is the one where you are looking at each other.

Heck... if my story is accepted as a choice it would only be second since your review is better than what I wrote.

So very moving and heartfelt! I believe our pups wait for us at the rainbow bridge the same as they anxiously waited for us to return each day. Their bond with our hearts is cemented forever. I've known the pain you speak of and it's mixed with the memories forever.
Hugs, Carol

Yes. I am full of hope that what you wrote is true, and even better all the pains of age will have passed for the two of us.

Hi Tom,
This is a nicely written poem that honors your pet well. I like the bottom left picture. It shows how pets and owners can look alike sometimes (ha ha). Sorry for your loss. I know your feelings well for I lost my dog about 5 years ago now. She died in my lap too.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Good luck in the contest.
Have a great day.
Joan

It would be nice when we crossover that we are greeted with a wagging tail and excited breath. Thank you.

Yes it would. If we are greeted by all our pet. I would be greeted by a zoo of 2 dog, 7 cats, and 2 hamsters. That is if you count children's pets too.

There is a special sadness in losing a pet because the love they give us is unlike any other love. Completely selfless and 100% ours. Thank goodness for the memories like the ones in your photos. Thanks for sharing.

He has been missed, save for the five times a day walks. the 5 a.m. reveille, the whining to be outside, and my constant howling at the moon. Buddy never did anything wrong. All the above is what I did to him!

We have owned 12 cats and five dogs over the years and we miss everyone of them, all different, but always absorbed into the family, everyone is remembered as a beloved image in our mind, beautifully written, good luck, blessings Roy

I replied to this earlier but it seems it never was recorded. That is happening more - recently.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and for adopting canines and felines.

This definitely was a sad poem for the contest. I know what it's like to have a pet die in my arms, and you captured it well. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Didn't you receive feedback on your review of We Two Use to Be. If not, I know not why as I did so, three hours past. What's happening with FS? It's not the first time this has occurred.

Your poem really tugs at the heartstrings. The way you describe your friend, from the joyful memories to the sorrow of his passing, is incredibly touching. I can feel the depth of your connection and how much he meant to you. The imagery, like his "joyful stride" and his mane "Blowin' in the Wind," paints such a vivid picture of the good times you shared. It's clear how much you miss him, but it's also great to see how you find comfort in those memories. Your hope to be reunited and play together again is so moving. Overall, it's a beautiful and deeply personal tribute to a cherished friend.
