This political 5-7-5, Precedent, has the proper formatting and reminds the readers that the Presidency is a position that is not just a power spot, but one requiring immense responsibility.

Well put. Thank you. If you read my poetry book, "Love...Light...Life" and really like it, I would be thrilled if you write an online review of it. And your words, "immense responsibility" hit the spot, Bill.

A good one, Stuart Witt, and a kind word to boot. Imagine, a kind word being shared at the Presidential debates? I'm waiting with bated breath!

Sending you my best today as always, and my good wishes in the upcoming vote.

Kindness, not harshness, has the capacity to build better structured and more decent individuals, families, countries, and world.

Hello, Good job with your entry for the political 5/7/5. Good syllable count but you can improve the flow by connecting the lines grammatically so it doesn't sound like a list. Good luck!

Gypsy Blue Rose, thank you. I get your point. Still, the poem's staccato quality was meant to show that, in reality, our political dialogue is too often disconnected and selfish. I wonder if you would consider reading my book, "Love...Light...Life". (If yes, your reaction to the book?)

Nice echoing 'eye' sounds reinforce the upbeat tone of this piece that admonishes the politicians of today to be a bit more kinder in their rhetoric. I think we're all tired of the politics in this country. Most people seem to want other candidates than what we've got on our plate. estory

Story, can I appreciate you good observations without my appearing egotistical? Thank you. Oh, if you read my poetry book "Love...Light...Life" and if you really like it, write an online review for it, that would be a kind act. All the best, Stuart

Referring to the three wise men. They could never be kind to each other, face to face in front of public, maybe. Trump isn't kind to anyone and would kick a man, when that man was down. Biden is kind, religious and finally realised he can't run the country. I was fond of Obama and his lovely wife. That was too long ago. Thanks for sharing and good luck with the writing prompt. K xx

This haiku really hits the mark with its message. The contrast between "smile" and "guile" is so striking and memorable, and it makes you think about how important it is to stay genuine. I love how you've captured the idea that chasing after desires can often lead us astray, but being kind is always the right choice. It's a powerful reminder to focus on sincerity and kindness, and it resonates deeply.

Patty, I sense that you have 'dived into this poem'. I hope you find it refreshing. If you read my poetry book, "Love...Light...Life" you might find that refreshing too. If so, you might write an online review about it. Thank you for sharing and for forwarding the discussion. All the best, Stuart.

nicely done short political haiku about our current political situation. I like the images chosen and the feeling in the poem as well as the call to not howl in protest

Yes, Jake, to howl is foul. We need to step back and see whether or not our political (and other) dialogue is positive and productive.
If you are moved to read my poetry book, "Love...Light...Life", and if you really like it, you might write an online review for it. Best, Stuart

This is one fine entry for this particular writing prompt, my friend. Kindness should be spread across the world to make it a better place.
God bless,

Thank you and God bless you as well. But can we really be blessed if we do not show kindness towards others (and towards ourselves)?

Hi, Stuart

I'm having trouble figuring out how your poem relates to political. You show all three candidates in your photo, but in your poem, which should stand alone from the photo you don't.

I think you're trying to say all politicians use smiles and you know those smiles are fake, hence the guile. It is a sad political situation

And then, of course, Trump is the only one who's had a trial and still is ahead in the polls. That's amazing to me. Hopefully the independence will decide the race in the swing states. He is so good at playing the victim and his followers think he really is a victim

I enjoyed reading your poem

Good job. Thank you for sharing.

In the political, silence, I think, is golden. Then, we are less likely to get tangled up in lies or in power struggles. Thank you for sharing your thinking.

This political 5-7-5 has a correct syllable count. It sounds like sage advice, so to speak. I heard somewhere a few years ago that most of the better-known politicians only tell the truth about 50 percent of the time, but they are just as adamant about the lies as the truth. Being kind would be a better qualification. Nice share.

I wonder how one would figure when to lie and when to tell the truth.
