Oh my goodness! That sounds just awful! I'm glad you got relief but I have never heard of a waterless toilet! How gross! And we don't have that many genderless restrooms here but it's changing. Thanks for sharing!

This is a story or desperation that is told well. I think rest stops should always have working toilets. That says that maybe New York should have a better Highway Division to keep its rest stops in order. I would also not be a fan of waterless toilets.

Actually there were some great entries and I did not place. The one about the lady who kept a out of order sign in her purse was the one I voted for. I had driven from NC to upstate NY to visit my brother. It was the first rest stop welcoming my desperate bladder to NY. 12 hours 32 minutes route 81 no tolls....Full of electric chargers with no electric cars on them. I thought I was on an alien planet.
