Hi Beth,
This is a witty look and working at a memory care unit. Some can't handle the everyday things that happen there. It seems Joel is one that can't.
Congrats on placing third in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great day.
Joan

Sad, but a fact of life, although your story does bring a smile. My wife worked in a nursing home, and she would tell me some of her experiences. Nice work and congratulations on your Honorable Mention. Thanks for sharing it. Stay well.

Thank you so much for the review and the six stars. My cousin told me a lot more of her experiences there. Some were things I wouldn't dare put in print.

This was a great short, short, short story. I liked the pacing and tone. You did a good job in few words. Thank you for sharing, and it was definitely prize-worthy.

Oh my goodness! I guess it was his "last day" not because he was fired but because he never wanted to have that kind of encounter again and who knows what would happen the second day! Great storytelling in just 50 words! Best wishes in the contest!

I can understand a shy guy being embarrassed when approached by a nude old lady expecting him to bathe her. Envisioning this is what makes it extra funny. Best wishes in the Dribble contest.

Thank you for reviewing my dribble and finding it funny. I thought it was too, but is sad peoples minds can get so they don't realize what they are doing.

Now that would be a complete and utter shock for any shy young man, to see an old lady starkers and saying, I'm ready for my bath now! Hey heh, even fo an older guy like me, well done Beth, good luck, blessings Roy

This is so amusing, Beth. I believe the story. I've seen this with my 98-year-old mother-in-law who is currently in a skilled nursing unit and will probably soon require the memory-care unit there. She makes inappropriate requests for things from any type of staff member. She will ask a maintenance worker to help her get to the bathroom, much as in this story. The workers are trained to politely respond they will find the correct person for the task.

This short true story, A Bit Out of his Pay Scale, would be a funny (to recall) incident indeed and totally change the trajectory of one's career working among the miswired elderly.

I guess Joel feared he would have to do more than change light bulbs. I bet this isn't the strangest thing that has happened in care centers, but it would be enough for a shy, young trainee:-)

Good luck in the contest.
