kiwisteveh,

Welcome to Fanstory. Congrats on winning the 5 Line Poem Contest. You've brilliantly capture the essence of the story in the children's book "Where the Wild Things Are" in 5 well written lines. You also highlight the sad reality of the loss of imagination in this modern 21st century with the ubiquitous influence of technology and its addictive control over our lives.

All the best,

Eugene

    Thanks for the review, Eugene.

Welcome to FanStory? I've been here since 2010!

Why do I have this weird feeling that your review was written by AI? It could be your last dozen or so words which bring up a sunject untouched by my poem.

    Have a great day.

    Steve,

First, I do apologize for not knowing you preceded me by 6 years as a member of Fanstory.

You can be assured that I wrote every word of the review of your poem Max grows up without the help of AI. I noted the contrast in your use of a well known children's story and the increasingly present dependence we've grown to become accustomed to with the use of modern technology to create what once used to be born of the vivid imaginations of men's ideas, thoughts and the human mind.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you. There is no hint of the impact of technology in the poem.

    Steve,

No need to apologize. You did not offend me. I just saw a deeper message in your excellent poem.

I admit to being one of the few, though I have heard the phrase. I'm thinking as Max has grown out of 'wild thing rumpus lands' he's now into other romps , hence the sale. A fun read Steve showing the growth from child to young adult.
Cheers
Valda

Hi, Valda. Thanks for the fine review.

Fun perhaps but with a tinge of sadness too as Max leaves the magic behind.

I enjoyed your 5 line poem alluding to children growing up and leaving the stories of childhood behind, and, hopefully, no longer interested in "wild things" and causing a "rumpus"!
Good luck in the contest, Steve.

    Thanks, Nancy.

When you no longer believe in Santa Clause or imaginary lands it is a sign you are growing up and that is positive, but also a little sad, don't you think?

Thanks, Janet. Yes, my two boys loved Max and the wild things too and I wanted to show an element of sadness when they outgrow such stories and the wonderful world of a child's imagination is left behind.

I got your allusion to Sendak's book. Of course, the picture also gave it away. Enjoyed your humor. And it reminds me of the Hemingway poem:
For Sale: Baby shoes. Never worn. Or something like that.
Cute that the wolf suit is for sale now that little Max has grown up. Best wishes in the contest!

    Thanks, Helen.
A little humour here, but I also wanted to show an element of sadness when kids outgrow such stories and the wonderful world of a child's imagination is left behind.

    Thank you.

Yes, as you worked out there was a point for the abrupt font change. Seems the judges liked it too!

I love this! Where the Wild Things Are is one of my favorite books to read to my students--and Maurice Sendik is one of my best-loved authors, so many good stories! Poor Max, imagination can seem pretty scarce in these days of social media and sensory input. This is excellently done!

Thank you! A winner for me.
I love Max. Unlike some readers who thought I was being funny, you seem to have grasped the point that losing your childhood imagination and belief in 'rumpus lands' is actually sad.

This is a fun poem. The requirement of only 5 lines but also the required syllables bring a great challenge.
I hadn't thought of that fun story for years ... so definitely must be missing.
Good luck in the contest.

I think that story is still around and popular, but, perhaps like you, I have no children or grandchildren around to share it with!
