You are so correct. Kids think we do this for cookouts and fireworks. They aren't taught about the people that put their lives on the line for this country and for all the rights, privileges, and freedoms that they have. Great job!

Hi Monica, this means a lot to me and as I could see from your review you wear your heart on your sleeve just as I do when it comes to patriotism.

I think that is what made Jan and I such good friends because I started writing them when I came and she showed me her interest too.

So thanks for the kind words and I appreciate you, dear friend.

This is the only Fourth of July poem I've read but there might be more because I'm running behind with reviewing. This one excellent and I'm glad you are acknowledging the many of people who have served to keep this country free. My husband was a soldier and he took pride in having served. I know if Jannypan hadn't passed away we would be seeing poems for her. Thank you for sharing this.

An extremely heart rendering true story, rhyming as usual is perfect. I can relate so much to the story. My Father was already in the Royal New Zealand Navy when World War11 started. He was away overseas for most of my childhood. His brother and sister were also in the Navy and my uncle Harry who I never meet was in the Air Force was unfortunately kill in action
Sad but important memories Love to you. NanaGaye

This is a very heartfelt poem. It is full of patriotism and pride of being an American. Thank you to your family for the price they paid for our freedom. The pride and honor is felt throughout your writing.

"So Happy Birthday, Old Glory

May Stars and Stripes forever wave

We truly feel the history

Each time we see a soldier's grave..."

Gripping stanza, my friend -- powerful poem!

Still on the road for what's turned into a month, and I'm not going to get home for another week or so. But, I'm trying to drop in a read a bit so that I don't miss out on reading all together. Thanks for sharing and honoring or men in uniform!

Hey Ric, I have to ask you if you are traveling for pleasure or business?
And speaking of business, if it's none of my business, tell me to butt out. LOL
Just curious as it seems like you have been traveling for a while.

Either way, I thank you for taking the time while you are gone to review,
I know I sure appreciate it.. so thanks so very much, my friend. Love, Debi

Unfortunately - that battles never won - is so true. This was a lovely tribute to all veterans for your 4th July celebrations, Debi. I was thinking of Jan as I read your beautiful tribute poem.
cheers,

This is a nice patriotic poem about soldiers who fought for America's independence and a man, they call Uncle Sam, who supplied the soldiers with food.
Your pictures, colors, font as well as YouTubes are nice.
The YouTubes make you think a lot and try to figure out how you can help.
Good luck on your wins and with your poem. I enjoyed my day with my family.

You know what? So did I. I just spent it with my husband as my kids had plans of their own, but we had a rainy day but he fixed food on the grill and it was nice. Nobody really worked so it was pleasant.

Thank you for your very kind comments for my poem. I tried to keep it about the patriotism and keep the muck of the election year out of it. I think our veterans deserve that honor today and I like that memory of how I feel about my flag and my freedom to make more of a difference to me today.

Of course we have to go back to real life at some point, but what's the rush. LOL.. haha! Thanks for your very kind comments. Love, Debi

This was just what I needed to read today! There's so much division in our country that it's barely recognizable from the world I remember as a child. Both of my parents were soldiers in WWII. Thank you for remembering those that fought and died for this precious country!

Thanks so very much, Colorado, and welcome to FanStory. I felt an obligation to write my poem more from what I remembered I was taught early on and that was to pay tribute to our flag, our service members and our freedom. I am the kind that still has tears when the National Anthem is played. So I didn't want to yuck it up with anything from the recent days of politics. Thank you for your approval and also for telling me of your parents service to our country. Also for the very kind review and comments.
