My word Gretchen,
you are prolific in your writing. I wish I had your energy and ability to come up with such interesting characters. This sounds like another great book in the making. Well done gal.
Have a blessed evening.

It hits in spurts, Tom. And it doesn't hit often. Lol. Thank you so much for this wonderful review and the extra six. Gretchen

Gretchen.
I'm trying to catch up, I have so many posts in my message box sometimes it feels like I'm drowning.

This was a well written chapter about Huck and Dewey and daddy. I'm wondering if the rooster really get in his way.

Looking forward to the next chapters which I have to get to.
John

I am already riled up again the boys' hateful father. Now he's killed Ben, their will be no more babies. This father deserved to have been killed by the snake, shame that never happened, but I guess we'll be hearing a lot more about this abuser. Huck and Dewey definitely aren't in a nice place. This is going to be a fabulous story, my friend. The beginning takes you straight into the story, no dilly-dallying. Well done, my clever friend. :) Sandra xxx

Ahhhh! The GW Hargis touch is at its creative best once again. You've managed to draw both brothers so perfectly already, and the evil nature of their father is little short of palpable. Great, great first chapter. I know I'm going to love this novella.

Here's two teeny spags I caught in the same sentence: He*(')*s protecting*(h)*is girls from both.

Can't wait for the next chapter! xoxo

Well, wait no more. I just posted it. I'm glad you are gong to join this story. Matthew Strait, Huck and Dewey's father is nothing short of a monster. I really appreciate this nice review and the extra star. Gretchen

Wonderful!! I'll go read it and review! (Unless it deserves a six, in which case I might wait until next Sunday, because impulsive me is out already!!!) The reason my students love me is because I have their same lack of impulse control.

Yay! A new book and I'm already hooked. Excellent first chapter of The Coyote Boys book.

The father sounds like an evil asshole

The characters are interesting and the plot is engaging.

Well done!

"Huck falls in love with a young black woman and this affection puts a target on her by his (fathe)? *father* maybe it's part of an accent.

Thank you so much, Gypsy. This one is going to be dark. Thankfully, it isn't too long. I find when I dwell on a dark story, my anxiety doubles. And thank you for the edits. I ran out of characters to use in the description. Thank you so much for the six. Gretchen

Huck's daddy certainly has badness in him as he seems to like killing things. What he has done to his son is horrible, but Huck and their mom are there to love Dewey. I am interested in seeing what comes next. There is one sentence you need to fix: He('s) protecting (his) girls.

I would like to know more about How Dewey became dim. He too like Ben got in Daddy's way? What a father (what a gory scene!).I can sense the darkness in this .Looking forward to reading more
(I think you can do a bit of editing..)
Short length is better .I think more people would read..

It sounds like another interesting read! I am looking forward to more, including a bit of the backstory behind Dewey getting hit over the head because of Huck.

Dewey is good. Mom did not protect her boys. Huck is Good. Daddy is bad. So far I follow. Lots of wiggle room for stuff to happen. You didn't give us a year. I would guess no older than 1950 or so. How am I doing? I want more. :-) Karen

You are right in the ballpark. I don't specify a year because I want the reader to see what they want. Lots will happen. Gretchen
