I think you met the requirements of a cinquain poem but mostly as a monologue. I don't think at our age we can sleep until noon but I do go to bed late so I probably cant sleep to 9 !
Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you, Helen. I sometimes manage to sleep past 7, but not often. lol. I have grandsons who sleep the day away and seem to remember those days of long, leisurely days where it was no big deal to never get up. HA! That was a bit ago...
Blessings and hugs,
Deb

I enjoyed the humor of this poem. It's certainly easy to become disoriented when roused unexpectedly from sleep, even if it is noon. The cute picture fits your words well. Best wishes in the contest. Carol

Hi, Carol~
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. It's HOT here, of course but it beats the tornados we dodged up in Wisconsin last week! I appreciate you reading and leaving a comment.
Blessings,
Deb

This contest entry caused me to laugh. I am an early riser. I have considered how long I could actually lie in bed before I get up. I struggle to make it to 7:00. LOL Thank you for sharing this entry with us. I want to wish you luck with the contest.

Yup, I understand. On occasion I get to sleep til 7 but, like this morning, it's usually closer to 5:45 or so. I'm going to try to get some reading in tomorrow, and yours is on the top of the list. :)
Blessings, sweet friend,
Deb

I have slept until noon, but I keep late hours writing while everyone else is asleep. This felt like I was being woken out of a wonderful deep sleep.

Lol. I get it. I told my dad once that I write better late at night and paint better when I get up at the crack of dawn. He considered for a minute and asked, "Which on pays better?"
I answered 'painting', which was true at the time.
He shrugged. "Go to bed early."
Now the situation is reversed, and I rarely paint but would love to again... Stay up late to write, get up early to paint. that would work! lol
Blessings,
Deb

A fun piece that fits nicely into the criteria for this contest. The easy, colloquial language gives it life and a sense of urgency which pulls the reader along until the startling reveal in the final line.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks so much, Steve! I apologize for the delayed response. Things around here are as crazy as I'm sure things around there are. :)

Hi, Debora
This looks like a good entry for the contest. Good luck with that!!
I used to get up past noon all the time especially since I've been retired. But, lately I've been an early bird getting up around 5:30 AM
It doesn't matter what time I went to sleep the night before I still get up at that time
This is a very good impression of a sleepyhead. I know you don't sleep until noon, but do you sleep at any time or where if people called you, They'd be disturbing your sleep? I used to all the time. But, I don't even take my phone with me to bed. And I do that because it's too tempting to go look at one more thing. And then when people call, they wake you up.
I enjoyed reading your poem
Good job. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you! I'm sorry for the delayed response. It's been a bit insane around here.
My hubby and I are both retired, as well. I'm an early bird and he's a night owl, so it gets interesting now that he doesn't have a schedule! My pups wake me around 6:30 to go out, so I'm up early, still. lol
I do take my phone to ed with me but don't look at it until the alarm goes off (for when the pups sleep in!) I know that temptation of looking at just one more thing... and then, 2 hours later, realizing that I blew it. lol
Blessings and thank you again,
Deb

That's a fun little poem certainly put a smile on my face and I should imagine lots of other reader's faces. Love the artwork you chose. In my senior years I enjoy my sleeps in, not to noon but sometime 9am. After raising four children I'm catching up on sleep. All the best NanaGaye
