Hi
This is a very sad poem about the loss of a pet. It is a hard thing to lose a friend and a part of the family.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a grand day and week.

Yes, a day at a time. As they say, "tomorrow is not promise." So getting what you can out of a particular hour or day, is precious. To me like spending with your grandchildren. We older people spend, time looking back and remembering the good times.
Your picture of a woman hugging her pet looks like it was done on metal.
Your colors blended right in with the picture.
Good luck with your poem.

The loss of any pet is hard, especially and aged one. I completely understand. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading and could feel the emotion. Good luck with the contest.

How do you do this in such succinct form, Shirley? And it all reads so smoothly and poignantly. The visual is beautiful and those little imaginative touches in your verse, such as "In your eyes was a knowing" and "nuzzling soft, warm breath." A true connection between owner and dog, embracing their last day together. Good luck! Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. Wow, a sixer!. I'm humbled xx.
This is a sad subject, but one I've gone through several times as many people do. It's heart-breaking, yet I wouldn't be without a dog. In fact, I've got 3. Beautiful souls.

I know exactly how you feel in this verse. It's also to do with the weight of responsibility we have over these little defenceless creatures.

You are showing an excellent but deserve an extraordinary. You consistently do great work. Im slowly writing a screenplay. I don't know why. My last one was rejected. I guess I like punishment. It's addictive isn't it?

Thank you so much, Eean, though I honestly don't feel worthy. I think we all question ourselves constantly. You're writing a screenplay. That's great! Never mind the rejection. Every writer has rejections. Each one makes you stronger. Don't forget that every word you write is important because it is your creation, a unique expression from your mind/imagination. Please let me know if I can help with punctuation (in small excerpts!) as I know this is something you worry about. Best wishes, my friend.

Hi, Shirley
This looks like a good entry for the contest. Good luck with that!!
It is so sad. We just live longer than they do.
My Patches had throat cancer. He screamed all night in pain. So we made the decision to put him down the next morning.
I think he might've known. He got on my lap and put his face onto my neck and face It broke my heart. And, it's still breaking my heart
So, I know this time is difficult right now. I wish I could tell you it'll get better. I think it does get better over time. You sure poured your heart out on this today. But, you also know you did the right thing. It's right to put an animal out of its suffering
I really enjoyed reading your poem
Good job. Thank you for sharing.

Your tankas brought back a sad memory of that "last walk" with my dog. You describe the experience so vividly you brought tears to my eyes. And that artwork could not be more perfect.
