I'm more entertained by lies than truths, which are more times than not, more exciting and entertaining. A thin line between beautiful and ugly, and mostly a difference in perspective. So, slap the words together and let them fly. Thanks for sharing.

I think we tend to read for entertainment and succour, rather than to learn, which, if one is like me, unstudious, will find reading as a means of learning, then yep, it won't matter, as long as I'm entertained, beautifully written Bruce, blessings Roy

"It will be the biggest lie I ever tell, and it will be so beautiful and meticulous" Interesting paradox--a beautiful lie.
Is this the dream of a writer-chef? To craft a failed romance narrative?
Interesting.

As writers we should all aim to be the the biggest and best liars of them all. You have described this beautifully. Keep up the lies and I promise to keep believing every word you write. Thanks for sharing.

I have no idea why I like this piece so much! I should make comments about little things, and suggestions for improvement, but since I really don't know what you want to say or how you want to say it, I'm thinking that in some way you met your goal. And when I read it, I meet mine.

Well, honestly, I don't know what to make of this story...it sounds absurd, and yet there is something unsaid. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

That's a most interesting write. In one way all fiction is lies, but it generally springs from a basis of truth. The skill is to make it impossible to tell if it is true or not! Best wishes for your ongoing writing, whether fiction or non-fiction. May it be beautiful and believable.

Hi Bruce,
I have a friend, who's been published for some time and one of his books turned into a movie. I happened across his during MySpace days. On his website he says he lies for a living. I suppose that's what writers do when you think about it.

Great post,
Rhonda

All fiction is a lie, otherwise it'd be nonfiction. And this piece is listed as fiction, so it is a lie. You may not really feel any of this. You created this 'struggle' to stoke our emotions. But you are pretty damn convincing, ergo an excellent writer.
Honestly, I'd scrap the author's note. Leave us wondering.
I think you are an amazing writer. Keep lying to me...

Julie, thank you so, so much. You?re always making my days with your reviews.
I've put it in a non-fiction, I am so used to writing fiction exclusively that I didn't even bother to think about what I'm doing.

I did exactly as you suggested - scrapped the notes altogether. You and Terry made very good points, and I appreciate both of you immensely.

If you've ever worked with quirky people and the public, you won't come off as a fraud. And, honestly, aren't all writers frauds? Actors, strangers? We all fake it. Just write. Learn as you go. Read Anthony Bourdain. Julia child. Feel their excitement at flavors and spices. You got this. Gretchen

Thanks so much, Gretchen. That's a good summary of what a writer is. I agree absolutely. Liars and fraudsters - may we live forever.
