Well, I was never that bad, But I did irritate people asking them questions all the time. My mom helped me navigate things. I lived in my head a lot. Being an invalid a lot, I was not active. So, my curiosity was satisfied with books mainly. I still love books. I like paperbacks, I like to hold the book in my hand. :-)

Thank you for your very nice review. I agree, it's pretty tough to 'dog-ear' a Kindle. And when you fall asleep with a paperback 1) a book doesn't break when you drop it, and 2) it's easier to find your place with a mangled book.

Having three gifted children allowed to skip numerous grades of school, I can probably relate to dealing with Ohmie more than most. And no, the memories aren't always pleasant one. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I believe this is my introductory Ohmie story. I thought other Ohmie stories were part of a novel that I had missed most of the chapters. I enjoyed this realistic story about a family on a camping trip with an over zealous smart little boy, who seems like his parents never know what he'll do next. I think I'll check in on Ohmie again.

Thank you. Your review is a blessing.
I scrolled though my portfolio to see if the posts were still there. they are. This one was about 10 pages deep.
    Kite Day
"Hey Mom! I?m home! C?n I have a cookie? I?m starvin? like Marvin!"
Mom didn?t respond, being in the kitchen far away when Ohmie burst through the front door. She?d long past made a rule that she?d not be shouting through the house.
"Din?tcha hear me? I?m home!" the eight-year-old said with an exaggerated pant.
"That?s good, Honey. Did you put your kite away?"
"It?s purty much shot. I?m starvin?! C?n I have some cookies? Didja miss me?"
"It?s only an hour until supper. Can you hold out?"
    "I?m star-vin?, Mom! I haven?t had nothin? since yesterday! Din?tcha miss me!"
"Well, I always miss my little man, but you?ve only been out a little while now."
"That was yesterday, Mom! I flew my kite around the world since then!"
"Around the whole world?" Mom smiled a bit too sweetly, like she didn?t really believe him or something.
"Yep! The easterlies pushed me an? my kite over the Pacific Ocean!"
"Uh-huh," Ohmie?s mother said as she continued peeling potatoes.
"So c?n I have a cookie? I?m starvin? for real!"
"I suppose. But you have to eat your supper."
    "I will! I?m starvin?! I din?t eat since yesterday!"
"Honey, you had lunch right here just a few hours ago."
    "That was yesterday, Mom."
Ohmie?s mother turned to look at her disheveled son, amazed that he could sunburn on such a cloudy day.
"The easterlies, like I said." Ohmie gorged his face with a second oatmeal cookie." Every longitudinal azimuth I gained an hour. I used the helium Jimmy Buffett gave me and filled my red dodge ball. Boy! You shoulda seen how big it got! I?m sorry I din?t tell you I was goin?. But I hadta hop on right away. I tied it to the kite tail an? sat on it.
"In an hour I was a card?nal away, a longitudinal card?nal. You know ?bout them, right? So by the time I got all the way ?roun? the world, I gained a whole day. I left tomorrow, but got back today, yesterday. I lost one a? my shoes over the Alps, or Mount Everest, somewhere, I?m not sure."
    Ohmie inhaled his third cookie.
"Looks like you lost both of them," his mother commented with a slight chastisement in her voice.
"No, one?s outside. I hadta use my left shoe to get around the biggest mountain I ever saw. I used it to make a drag or else I?da crashed. Then I dropped it cause my hand got too cold. I started ta get tired over the Atlantic Ocean, but the edge of a hurricane slung me. That was cool! I thought a jet would see me! You know, the kind they take pictures of hurricanes with? I was hopin? you?d see me on TV!"
"Uh-huh," Ohmie?s mother said as she prepared to boil the cubed potatoes, failing to notice that Ohmie?d left for the living room.
"I?m home, Hon!" Ohmie?s father announced as soon as he entered the front door. On his way to the kitchen, he saw Ohmie on his knees in front of the couch fast asleep, his arms and head resting on the seat.
"Our little man must?ve had quite a day," he said to his wife, leaning in for a welcoming kiss.
    "He?s been flying his kite."
"I saw what?s left of it over the high line. I warned him about that. He must?ve tried to get it down with his shoe. It seems to be stuck up there with the kite. What I don?t understand is how his dodge ball got up there ? covered with an inch of ice."
"Only one shoe? His red dodge ball?" Ohmie?s mother?s jaw dropped, her eyes saucer-wide as she ran to her hungry little man.
That was Ohmie?s first time to circumlocute the world.

Oh wow! Thank you for sending me Kite Day. Now I'm beginning to understand. Ohmie is an unusual little boy with a vivid imagination, who somehow experiences extraordinary, unbelievable adventures. I'll have to be on the lookout for Ohmie.

This was a fun story. Long drives with little boys are draining affairs, indeed. I do not enjoy camping, so I felt a lot of empathy for Samantha trying to keep Ohmie in check away from the routine and comforts of home.

A really good tale of a rambunctious, extremely intelligent 9 year old. After sitting with my 3 year old granddaughter who was too sick to go to daycare, but too well to lie about and let me rest, I can totally relate. Not all little girls sit quietly and play with dolls, lol.

I like Ohmie, and I know I've run into him before. Great character, great descriptions, fun and energetic post.

Take care,
Rhonda

I'm surprised Samantha is still standing! Ohmie is certainly fun, and his maturity index seems well behind his intellectual one. I've observed before that humans often develop lopsidedly. Some of the most intelligent people are clueless with commonsense. I'm looking forward to more Ohmie stories. If you changed the POV to his, you'd have a comedy kids' series.

Thank you for your very nice review. This is about the 85th or 90th Ohmie story posted. It was about time I offered Mom's POV (1st one).

Well, the one thing I took away from this was that Samantha was a bad mother. I guess Ohmie lightened her up a little, but still . . .

You certainly are on a writing streak, Wayne. It takes me a month to churn one damn short story out. Good for you!

Thanks for sharing:-)

My wife says she is with 'you'! Story after story makes her mad, too.
    Thanks for the fun review.
(I guess I failed to convince you that Mom has been at the end of her rope for years with brilliant Ohmie being difficult to handle.

This one seems less about Ohmie and more about what it is like to have an active genius for a child. It certainly could be very exhausting both mentally and physically!

Wayne, This is a really good chapter you have penned. You used great descriptive words and very good dialogue. At the age Ohmie happens to be that's when it gets harder to get them to listen. Thank you for sharing. blessings, Teri

He's an impossible child isn't he? Does he have ADHD? Bright as a button but exhausting for his long-suffering parents! Your story skilfully captures the angst of parenthood and the oblivion with which Ohmie lives his life. That calculation of how many weeks left and what activities will fill the endless gap is all very relatable. In fact, all a captivating insight into family life, one that entertains and is very, very credible. I think you're having fun writing this, Wayne. Loads of potential for the next disaster! Take care Debbie

Ohmie is a prodigy. In the prehistoric settings he's always inventing stuff.
And yes, indeed. Writing Ohmie stories is great fun. (There's about 90 of them now.)
Thank you for your very nice review.
