Thank you Dolly. I didn't have my first helicopter ride until I was eighteen and married. Thanks for the review.

These were very entertaining stories, Beth. Your dad sounds like a pretty cool guy for letting you go up in that plane. He was willing to put up with the abuse he was sure to get from your mom just to give you a good time. My kind of guy!

Mattie also sounds like quite a character. I loved that description of her: like a kid in an old body. Hard to defend her unwillingness to help out at all, but she sure entertained you and made a lasting impression.

What a thrill this must have been as a child. The owner of the airport sounds like he was a very nice man.

"Wow, you weigh a whole 38 pounds. You're not much bigger than a bird. That's going to cost your daddy 76 cents. Are you worth that much?"

This is a funny part.

Thank you Nicole. Yes the plane ride was a thrill and an unexpected because I didn't know I'd get to go up until I reached the airport. I appreciate the review and comments.

One brave child yo were, Beth! A plane ride would have been above and beyond but to flip over inside it...not me! And Mattie was quite the character. At least she wanted to go out with a bang!

Thank you Carol. I think if I'd been a little older, I might have been more concerned about going up in that plane.

Thank you. it was something I can'r forget. I think my own children might have scared but I wasn't. I remember the first I traveled in on a commercial airline I was a little nervous but by that time I realized planes could actually crash.

I do remember about your sharing about Mattie but I don't remember about the first plane ride. I thought your first plane ride was to visit family in Texas. But I am so impressed with how brave you were at that age! How fun! You could have become a pilot!

My Dad drove to Tesas when I less than a year old. I rode a train thre on my second trip at six. My fist commercial flight was from New Orleans to Jackson after I was married. I wrote a poem about Mattie and I may have mentioned her a story. Thatk for tthe review.

Oh, so it was that trip by car I was remembering. It was such a big event for you to leave town. I must be projecting my own first plan travel when I was six to come to the states. 😊

I'm curious . . . what kind of funeral did she end up having?

This was during the war; are you going to write about how it affected your family? Did anyone serve in your family?

You did something as a child that most will never do in their lifetime - ride around in a small plane while dipping and diving and twirling! I would have puked:-(

Thanks for sharing another chapter and congrats on your latest flash win.

Thank you Pam. I appreciate the review and comments. Actually I was married and had moved away when Mattie died. I'm sure she didn't get her choice of funerals. Her daughter-in-law didn't appreciate her so if she had anything to do with it she probably had her cremated. As to the war, I didn't affect us personally that much as no one in my family served. I will write what I know ahout it. We were affected by rashening

Sounds like a wonderful plane ride (you can't get much for 76 cents these days!), though I am not sure I would have enjoyed the flip. probably best your mother didn't know until after the event. Mattie sounds lovely. She obviously enjoyed your comppany and interest, and was probably very lonely. Well written.

Thank you Wendy. I think the thrill of one flip was enough for me. I was ready to go tell everyone about it after that.

Thank you Tom. I don't know why I felt safe up there. It didn't dawn on me that a plane might actually crash.

This was well-written and interesting with a creative storyline that kept me reading. I liked the characters especially Maddie and I wonder if she got the funeral she wanted. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Marilyn, I'm afraid Mattie didn't get her funeral. She was dreaming of being someone special who might get such a funeral.
