An interesting story. Question: are all of the males on the alien going to be eaten or just Rik? My impression was that all of the vellen males aboard the ship would be eaten.
Reminds me of a twilight zone episode where the aliens came to eat us and to write a cookbook about the best way to cook us

First, I like that this story takes place on another planet, not Earth. You do a good job explaining why the planet was dying and how the women had died. We sympathize with the old man Xorn. The second half of the story has a faster pace and the ending totally surprised me. The fact that there might be a nasty carnivorous specie out there does not surprise me. Overall, a well-told story. I thought this was well written. You have a complex story despite it only be 700 words. I was drawn into the plight of Xorn and worried about the inhabitants of Vella. Nicely done.
