Best wishes for your contest entry; they do wait for us.
Heaven has to be peaceful and full of His light. Unlike Earth that is imploding from the weight of evil works and the greed of man. Heaven must be busy accepting all the thousands killed in wars.

This is very emotional. It's hard to make sense of a loved one dying and I can totally understand if the person they leave behind would want to be with them especially if it's someone they spent most of their adult life with.

"I Promise" Don't say that, 'cause when/if you don't come through it'll be more devastating. Just say 'I'll try'. :-)
"To James my one and only" But why limit yourself so?
"Soon i'll leave this frightful sphere" What, are you really thinking of...leaving this planet--for another??

Not sure how an elderly copes when his or her significant other passes away. I was there to help my father and together we supported each other after the death of my mother.
But for someone who has no one, or has grown up children that live too far away, being left behind must be very painful.
If I were in such a situation, I would welcome death too. I would want to be reunited with my loved one.

Very nice; stylish in more ways than the obvious. The comma splice in the last line might bother a purist, but I think poetry gets a bit of leeway in punctuation.
