Ciao poet, you now have two votes.
I'm always looking for an unusual topic. And your poem : fortune telling, is just that.
The church looks down on these practises and yet in my country there are hundreds that make a living in reading the cards ( which is on the line of reading tea leaves , reading palms etc.)
Even coffee dregs are read.
The fortune teller asks the client what he/she wants to know : about love or wealth.
Usually the cup is turned upside down on the saucer.
After 5 minutes the cup is removed .. if the client wanted to know about his future finances and the dregs formed a mound that meant money was on the way .
Also if a perfect circle was left on the saucer by the cup, money was on the way too.
I have a friend that reads cards and another that interpreted dreams.

Thank you for your vote. Truthfully, it did not warrant a podium placement. Your comments to me did (-;

I like this although I do not like tea I do indeed consider it to be the dregs. I am not 100% sure but I think that it should be leaves. Good luck in the contest.

Leafs is acceptable per Merriam-Webster. It does sound better to my ear, but I was trying to image the tea leaf and then making it plural.

Leafs are acceptable per online dictionary. Truthfully it sounds better to my ear, but I was trying for the image of the tea leaf and making that plural.
-
Maybe you should stop using that dictionary; because the plural of leaf in English is leaves. The one exception I know of is a Canadian Hockey Team. The plural is tea leaves I lied when I said I wasn't 100% about it. lol
-
Merriam-Webster is American I was talking about proper English usage.

Very well done, I like the way you have used dregs as a double meaning, as being a fortune teller may not be so bad, if I may "tea leafs" should this be
(tea leaves) very well presented, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

I checked before I posted about leaves and leafs - both are correct as plural for leaf. Admittedly, the former sounds better to my ear. However, I am aware that it may sound incorrect.
You were spot on about my dregs.

I thought this was interesting. With just two lines you say a lot. I got from this that reading tea leaves isn't always about interpreting the leftovers at the bottom of the cup. I loved that you can read deeper into this - and you really have to. Great job!
